A backend doesnt need to be all pretty and stuff, it just needs to work and be developer friendly. No animations and shenanigans.
You think same way as Cs-cart's engineers do..
Yes you don't need it to be pretty if your store has only two types of users Admin (you) and buyers. However if you have mv store you have to worry about third type of users - sellers or vendors. If you can't gain their confidence and trust, there will no products in your store and if you don't have products no buyers. So you have to apply same logic as you would apply to front end home page design to gain confidence and trust of potential buyers.
This is purely a business aspect most software engineers and coders won't get it. They are only focused on features, features and features, i have been in this business too long have seen same mistakes too many times..
Here comes the new VM+ which allows vendors to create specific design for their frontstore and backend.
If you don't like the price of VM+, this is a cheap option for the backend only

Yeap it worked! One suggestion: this is a great add-on that gives ability to change colors and font, one more small change could make this add-on perfect. Currently vendor login page only has login box, adding marketplace logo, name, footer and some changes to login box itself could make this add-on perfect face-lift for boring default cs-cart.
All valid points 12ka4 - the whole back end lacks intuition for the vendors, who, in 2018 expect an user friendly, step by step experience. We had to 'trim the fat' in the CMS so vendors would not get lost in all the unnecessary clutter.
