Z-index help please!

I always seem to run into crazy Z-Index issues, here is another one.

I am trying to display a QuickTime video on a category page, it works great but when I use the categories wrapper menu the pop out menu is underneath the video. I went into .css styles and tried to add z-index high number to all the sidebox wrapper entries but nothing fixed it…

Can anyone please help me I’m:confused: really stuck!

PIC attached of problem.

No I haven’t solved it, you probably visited my site after I took down the .mov I uploaded a flash version and the quality is horrible, but doesnt have the z-index issue.

also it doesnt do this in Firefox but does it in Chrome and IE9

VERY FRUSTRATING

ihagg i have the solution for me. The mistake was that the Div must have a position, z-index works only when the div have a position indication. for example:

z-index:1;
position: relative;

write me if this help for you too?

Where exactly did you put the code?

I do this code in the css what is relevant for the DIv where i like to do the z-index. In my case i have must change the categories with z-index, because it has overlaped the pop up from my images.

In your case you should look at

http://www.in-homeautomation.com/store/skins/dark_whiteness/customer/dropdown.css

ul.dropdown, ul.dropdown li, ul.dropdown ul (linie 9)

check

/* Logic */
ul.dropdown, ul.dropdown li, ul.dropdown ul {
list-style: none;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;

change to

/* Logic */
ul.dropdown, ul.dropdown li, ul.dropdown ul {
list-style: none;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
z-index:999;
position: relative;

But NOTE: i am not a coder, i havent very much css knowledge, i have read about the css.

Thank you for the help, I will try this out and report back!

Ohh wow, i have send you a mistake:

please make z-index a lower number, maybe 1 or 2. Test it

And how it seems?

I have see your video, and consider about what you write at the top. Dont use QuickTime video, use flv because i think more people have installed flash instead of Quicketime player. !?

I am going to try your code today, I would actually prefer to use Quicktime so iPad users can view the video, they can’t view flv/swf.

Ok, I just tried it…no luck

If I am changing z-index of categories block popup is this the right area?

Also I thought you want highest z-index for the popup menu so it goes over quicktime movie? Why lower number as you suggest 1 or 2?

I tried high and low number and quicktime movie still covers popup movie, can you give me a link to your page with movie so I can see or your code?

I had to put the quicktime movies back up because flash isn’t working for me with Internet Explorer 9 it is taking 5 minutes for the movie to load for some reason.

Can someone please look at the Z-Index problem I have with these movies and try to help me?

It’s kindof urgent.

Thanks

Nor its working for me. The movie is behind the menu when i go over it.

You are using Firefox, can you use Internet explorer and try? The problem is with Internet explorer or Chrome.

Sorry forgot it, hold on i look at it.

Maybe some of our pro coders can help him?

That would be really great if possible…big thanks to Triplex for spending time to try and help, we just haven’t been able to figure this out.

Seems to me more and more if you want to please iPad customers you are going to go with Quicktime or something iPad friendly so I cannot be the only one that will run into this problem?

I never was able to get any help; with this problem, so I went with a third party hoster to serve the videos.

These guys are pretty good, if anyone needs this solution, and there is a 30-day trial with full access.
