Less than 1% have this issue and typically it is risky business hence my earlier question.
We have no issues with PayPal and I know noone with the reserve problem.
“PayPal determines whether to require reserves based on risk associated with the type of product or service being sold, the merchant’s history of charge backs, and the length of time they’ve been PayPal sellers.”
Oh, and Triplex, please, please, pleaseee restrain from making tests in my shop, it is a live one…
You can make them in cs-cart demo, they also have paypal installed.![]()

But if i open a new account for the shop, they can´t know about any history
Well, that’s right, if you open a new account with paypal they don’t know your history…for the first month or two!
Don’t forget that with paypal, we can only receive about 3000€ a year without needing to present your identification, if you earn more, you will have to give them a copyof your ID, and then, if you previously had a “black” history…welll, do I need to explain?
About the business account; it’s more profesional to have one instead of a regular one because when a client makes a payment, they will see your shop name instead of your personal name (wich occurs in regular accounts).
For a business account you don’t need to pay anything, it’s just a matter of upgrading in your paypal account profile.
You can accept credit card payments with any kind of paypal account.
O.K. thanks for the whole explain! I test it now how it works all…
No i think i dont get a black history. I make a clear and fine business!

OMG, i have register yesterday a new account. And now i´ve test it. It is very angry, because german customers can´t pay with credit card without a paypal account. It is possible that you can test it in your shop if a german customer comes and would like to pay over paypal but without a account??? That was very good, because then i can call paypal germany and pleased there that we can do this option for my customer too.
Hi Triplex,
I’ve just tested it with a german adress and Paypal page opened in German languange with the credit card fields ready to fill out.
But, I do have a pretty good idea for how you dont see it.
In your Paypal account go to (you probably have to find the german equivalent to these english expressions)
Profile / Web site Selling preferences
scroll down the page and set “Paypal Account - Opcional” as activated
The problem you now have is because you don’t have the “Pay with Paypal account” as opcional, but has the only option!
If you manage to do this, go to your shop and test it again, you will see it working now ![]()

If a customer who is in paypal checkout page ever been to paypal and has a login cookie paypal will never show option pay by credit card.
Germany has limited amount of payment systems of their way, somehow most Germans prefer to pay via offline payments like swift bank, Moneygrams…
But I am sure there should be some service available in Germany, only thing you would need is to make / order a module to be compatible with cs cart.
Moneybookers is quite good option for Europeans, but module is required for cs-cart.

Yes, but in this case, there is no need to show credit card fields, the client already is familiarized with paypal payment.

Yes but some seller do not know that. They have PP account, want to test if PP accepts credit cards also, do test checkout, do not see credit card option, start worry ![]()
Oh…yep, that’s right ![]()
With Paypal I pay around 3,5% plus 0,35 cents. per order (something like this).
There is nothing more to pay.
When my account started to have more payments, the only thing they asked me was to fax my IDto prove my identity, nothing more.
It’s fast, simple and effective.
P.S. No, I do not earn any comissions from paypal;)
Here is my problem with PayPal. When a client selects paypal as a payment option they are sent to paypal’s website where they see an option over to the right to login. And over on the left there is some text that gives them the option to continue with out a paypal account. As we all know users do not always read. And once they get to the paypal screen they try to use the same login as your website which just makes matters worse. The only way that I know around this is to get PayPal Pro which the user never leaves your site and enters all cc info on your site. I get some users leaving the order open as they did not finish the check out.
Well, untill now I haven’t had that problem with paypal, when a client chooses this gateway, and if they don’t have a paypal account, the credit card fields are much more visible than the create or login to account ones, so, no error here.
I always make my tests in a browser that have no cookies stored. If you don’t do this, and like Darius said, you will not be able to see it like your clients see it, and you will get the wrong impression, in this case, you will only see the login fields.
Paypal Pro is more practical, but for this you need SSL.

Yes it its a big problem, i´ve called today with paypal support. They have tell me about Paypal wax, i dont know how writing this. Its brand new in germany and next days a technical coder will call me back.
That with paying with credit card without a paypal account is differently and if you sit not in germany as seller you buyers can pay equal over cc. But if you are a german seller it is very ****ty
I have askes the support why it is, they asnwered me “i dont know, sorry”
i will update you shortly how it works but payment processing is very horrible ![]()
If you have a better solution please tell me!
I’m sorry Triplex, but don’t banks in Germany have payment gateways?
If you had that it would be simpler and cheaper to hire one with your local bank.
We use authorize.net and will be using it with the CS Authnet gateway and a standard merchant account through a US bank. Tested and seems to be work well. I like authorize.net…recognized and good customer support.
Since we sell customized products, many times when all is said and done, we need to send an invoice. Basically in that case I have a custom web page template we use for invoicing which lets the customer click the Pay Now button and pay using Authorize.net SIM (Simple Integration)…Franly its a bit clunky cause we need to push an invoice page out for each sale and give the client the link. I am thinking of getting QB or other invoice software that can do it automatically for nonstore payments.
Paypal…X#!@&^%$. I would probably be kicked outa here if I shared my thoughts. They are not a real merchant account and can basically hold your funds anytime they want…which they have on many occasions with us for ridiculous reasons. We were using it for our ebay sales.
Paypal is rapidly moving to a rolling reserve for all accounts. Right now they are just testing the water to find the pressure point. They hit us with a 10% of revenue for 60 days hold. This for an account that has never ever had a charge back or dispute, does not sell high risk products, and is an ebay powerseller with 5 star rating across the board. Go figure. Well they lost a good chunk of change each month because we have fully moved to a real merchant account and rarely use them unless a buyer contacts us and requests it.
Basically Paypal sucks for sellers in my opinion.
The 1% with the rolling reserve Trav mentioned might have been true months ago, but many more have been hit. I have been following it closely on a number of forums.
Additionally Paypal is a full percent above what I am paying with a merchant account and authnet.
I know many people use it with no problem, but it simply has not been my experience. It’s about trust and I just don’t trust them. Just Google PayPal Problems …
Also, even though PayPal takes credit cards, they don’t want to take credit cards and the way they have things setup, its very clunky for people that want to pay with credit cards as the invoice and payment process drives them to pay with paypal and they have to click through a bunch 'o **** to pay with their CC.
I would strongly recommend Sage Payment. I work closely with one of their sales agents and he always gets the best deal for all my clients. Average monthly statement fee is $5! If you’re interested, go to mannamovers.com and ask for Dan Cano.
Note: CS-Cart supports Verus, which is Sage’s sister company.
