Var/Compiled missing

After upgrading to v3 I notice there is no Var/compiled directory, is this correct?

I wondered the same but no matter what cache method I've used in 3.0.1-3.0.6 /var/compiled/ is never created. I guess it must have been removed in the V3 branch.
