Jesse,
For future reference, what negatives have you experienced with inmotion that steers you away from them?
I have no actual experience with inmotion, just a host that caught my attention ahwile back & thought they could be another option for her.

I had a client experiencing a large number of issues relative to the serverr, at the time I was a little clueless to servers however since realised that the resources posted were drastically lower than advertised. Running a cPanel backup took 2/4 hours at the time for a site that was less than 1GB in size.
Consistent time-outs from HTTPd (Apache) and the overall neglect towards the client's business. I communicated to them what the problem was, just to be told “it's not our problem/it's your script”. I hosted the client on my own site for about 3/4 weeks without any issues, and I was a n00b at that time - goes to show their interest.
Not as bad as GoDaddy, but certainly enough for me to warrant their inclusion in said list.

Although I can see that you are now absorbing what Struck has to say, for all intents and purposes:
- If you have a shitty host, you WILL have a shitty store.
[]Lower Google rankings (due to slow load)
[]Insufficient resources to provide information to customers
[]appearance of errors, due to above
[]lack of rankings as your site is indexed displaying errors
- If you can only spend $10 p/m on hosting, consider whatever you are doing to be a complete and utter waste of time. SnoRocket’s popular saying is that “if you don’t spend more on your hosting than your cell phone bill each month” which rings true for just about anything that’s supposedly dedicated to providing your website to the internet population at ANY point in time. Now revert back to 1) and review again.
- My shortlist:
[]BlueHost = Advocated by members of this forum (Not me)
[]HostGator = Advocated by members of this forum (Not me)
[]FutureHost = Advocated by members of this forum (Not me)
[]VPS.net = Partially suitable if you have a third-party server technician
[]ServInt = As Above
[]WiredTree = As Above
[]InMotionHosting = NOT suitable
[]GoDaddy = NOT suitable
[]HostMonster = NOT Suitable
[]RochenHost = NOT suitable
[]SiteGround = NOT suitable (Yes, CS-Cart gain commissions)
[]Martfox = Not Suitable (Just moved a client from their VPS, don’t know if shared would work however am not advocating it regardless)

A2host = NOT Suitable (Member of this forum’s complaint is lack of support)
- Watching websites grow is interesting enough, lay off the grass at 5:37AM

Thank you very much for the nice list above!That is something very useful, and I see that BlueHost is up there in the green. Thanks again!
InMotion Hosting wouldn’t move my CS-Cart over. They said they would, they kept saying they did, they would tell me - check out your test store using this link, and it never worked. Finally gave up after dealing with them for a few weeks. Yes, they are WORSE than GoDaddy by far when it comes to Tech Support. At least the guys at GoDaddy seem to try to help, even if it just goes nowhere…

Alright, thanks Jesse.
I was just a bit curious for future reference, so i will toss this info into the ole data bank as well.
And yep, I have also read & noticed several positive comments regarding FutureHost(at least some of which were made by users that I would consider as worthy sources of information, rather than beginner comments with self-inflicted problems.)

It's realy hard to say “WHO” is the best host (e.g. for CS-Cart). It's true, that Jesse moved a customer from Martfox to another host due some problems with the specific site (it was a 1.3.x version), on the other hand Martfox hosts around 100 other CS-Cart sites without any problems.
Next funy thing is, that some customers which had sites hosted at the recommended companies above, moved to Marfox for some reason like: “…I guess BlueHost with all its slowness and downtime have made me nervous…”

And as some seem to ignore, a major problem I had in the past that led me to finally switch to InMotion Hosting (before giving up on them and going back to GoDaddy) turned out to be an issue with CS-Cart all along, much as I suspect is the case with this upgrade to 2.1.0. Why did my other upgrades work everytime without a hiccup and only this upgrade requires me to change hosts?
I haven't had anytime to mess with the stupid thing again, but I really find it a bit frustrating that the only “help” I received was the “change hosts” answer. I get that there are better set-ups, but I've had CS-Cart for about 3 years now and haven't had to change from GoDaddy for an upgrade before. And no one ever answered my question about whether or not there was a different way to upgrade than directly through CS-Cart. Does anyone know? Thank you in advance!

Install 2.1.4 demo in other folder on your server, upload some products, addons and play with it. It you feel it works fine in your server, then csv-import all your data and account. As final step, delete all files in the root (all the 2.0.15 files and folder) and move the 2.1.4 there. You'll avoid all the mess, you'll be glad you did it this way.
Cscartrocks, webgraphiq, alt-team, Jesse (just no name a few) could advice you well and import your data.
If you fell 2.1.4 demo doesn't run well in your server, or there are error messages or whatever, then don't try to force 2.1.4 into godaddy (even less 2.1.0) Move to another host (I recommend one with full Cpanel)
This is not fault of cs-cart or godaddy, is just that all servers are not created equal. Servers evolve, hosting software evolves, some use certain set of scripts and others don't. Some are configured to sell you more junk and others don't. So if you think all hosts should work the same, I'm afraid to tell you this is not the way hosting business works and you need to read more about it. Hope this help.
Colortone, don’t overlook the fact that she has an existing site/business which has already been in place for quite some time!

That will take care of some of your important data, categories, products, etc.
Then, you will need to recreate your skin from scratch if you want to resemble your current store design.
Then, you will need to go through all CS-Cart Admin store settings to match what you currently have in place.
You will also need to recreate any shipping methods, User Groups, Promotions, etc. etc. you currently have setup on your site.
Also, if you have had any custom code modifications done to your store in the past, they will also need to be re-implemented.
I am sure there will be more to go over as well…
(Make sure you don’t loose all past orders, and data for your current registered customers!)
To make a long story short, you must migrate your existing database to the same CS-Cart version you are upgrading to (this is not the same as simply copying & moving it as there will be “many” differences between these two DB’s, schemas, additonal fields, etc., etc. which must be migrated. So, make certain whomever does this knows what they are doing…

I don't factor the cost in any of these hosting packages - rather resources, support & knowledgeable staff.
It's possible that Martfox have knowledge of CS-Cart however the customer was waiting for their business to die off before the issue was resolved - Yes, he was working with CS-Cart 1.3.4sp2 however at the same time support wasn't provided for his unique environment. The VPS provisioned was reporting to 134M of RAM - Nothing near operating resources, especially for his high-volume store, quite simply: unethically low. The inbuilt ConfigServer firewall was turned on by me however received an invoice from Martfox for the same service(I believe they thought that they turned it on themselves, regardless it's a single button pushed)
It's all fine when you've got 100 vanilla builds, but for anyone having issues - they don't appear to be supported and for that reason I don't recommend Martfox straight-out. To this date, I've only provided the hosting companies that I've heard well of, from forum members that are not within my experience - quite possible that they are not all that great (Clips + ServInt for example), that said I've got 10+ clients running their own VPS on ServInt with only one 'problem' client due to his third-party modules and corrupted database. So My list may not be 100% accurate, but I know what works for me.

The issues with CS-Cart are 90% of the time resolved from the server level, there are true cases where CS-Cart has been at fault. These issues normally fall upon configurations outside of CS-Cart's testing environment such as suPHP permissions on Centos 64bit systems, running in a VPS container. Not to say that it's the hosting environment however my statement was purely - been there, done that, the host cannot resolve it, move somewhere/one that can.
In light of this, Susie - PM me and I'll make a copy and upgrade it on my own hosting infrastructure, it's fair warning to assume that if it works on my own, it's due to your hosting - if not, I can at least diagnose the issue to fix it.

Thank you VERY MUCH Colortone, Struck, & Jesse! You all really explained it very well. Thank you again!!
Wow… looks like I’ve got my work cut-out for me. Jesse, I’ve never pm’ed anyone on here yet, so I’ll have to go hunt for where that lives. Off I go…
Thanks again everyone!
