Tutorial Needed

I would like to find a tutorial on creating a new layout and applying it to certain pages. It seems intuitive enough but in my case at least it doesn't work the way I think it should.



The Knowledge Base doesn't have anything very useful and a search of the forum doesn't yield much help so surely there must be something that I can latch on to.



I am using version 4.2.2 and I an create a new layout but it seems to break the original when I try to apply it so obviously I am doing something very wrong.



If anyone knows of a tutorial please let me know.
