Our automated emails stopped working yesterday and I think the issue is related to Google tightening security requirements. Before I spend a lot of time trying to figure this out, can anybody confirm that the latest release of CS-Cart works with Gmail now?
Just refreshing this. There has got to be others using CS-cart with imap and gmail servers. Can anyone confirm that this works?
I got the notice from Google about gmail too. I’m unclear whether it’s possible to get 2FA to somehow work with smtp so I started looking for alternate smtp email providers that don’t require 2FA. This sucks because it is the only account I’ve had that has never been blacklisted.
But smtp email is still working on my site so I haven’t made any changes yet. Maybe it’s still working because the site’s email account is on Google Workspace?
Thanks for the reply. I am also using Google Workspace. I have been for many years. I’ve read that Google stopped allowing “less secure apps” a while ago, but noticed that our store email account still was set up for them. It made me wonder if Google was giving us some kind of unofficial grace period. But it just stopped working last week with no warning and no change to cs-cart. Good luck!
We’re kind of a low-volume, high-profit business and we get involved in most of our sales anyway. I was considering just disabling automated email completely, but I can’t figure out how to deal with things like password recovery. Of course the better option is to just have the software work.
In my case it’s not feasible to disable automatic emails. After someone buys something, they should get an email receipt, tracking numbers, etc.
I just had a look at my email settings here: https://myaccount.google.com/u/1/security?nlr=1&pageId=none
In the security section, “2-Step Verification” is off and (scroll down) “Less secure apps” is enabled. Maybe try this to solve the problem?
Also, I think there is a setting in Workspace admin that allows users to enable/disable these settings in user’s email accounts.
i had authentication problem, what i had to do is to go to
myaccount.google.com to app passwords and create password there, then used it instead of account password
maybe it helps, not sure
Thanks for the help! I did go through all these settings last week, but I’ll have another look, just to be sure.
Shortly after sending my last message, emails from the site started working again with no changes to CS-cart. I did change my passwords last week, which did not solve the issue immediately. I’ll have to contact my host to see if they made any changes over the weekend. It is a mystery.
Regardless of my immediate relief, I’m not confident in the reliability of the system. I’m hoping for a technical document or software update from cs-cart that will address these challenges.
If you are using Gmail and 2-factor authentication, please create the App Password to be used for SMTP:
