Sitemap - Google only indexing few pages

My sitemap produced by the add on module creates 185 pages but Google only indexes 9. Any ideas?

Help greatly appreciated.

Get more high-value inbound links toward your website. The more links you have, the more of your pages will be indexed. Other than that just give it some time.

Did you look in the Google Webmaster diagnostics area for html and crawl errors? Most likely your meta description is too similar to other pages.

Get real, not true at all. High value links with keyword anchor text “can” improve your rankings based assuming it’s not a “no-follow” link. Google doesn’t always tell you either the total # of indexed pages it really has but if you have only 9 out of 185 you need to do a little more seo work.

Get real? Please, you should really learn a little bit about SEO before telling other people they are wrong(let alone giving other people advice).

Sure having too much duplicate content will affect how many pages get indexed, but meta descriptions have nothing to do with this. I’ve had the same meta description across many pages of my site and thousands of pages were indexed.

Here is your answer… strait from the horses mouth

Your a star, many thanks.

Your pages (not all) won’t be indexed at time point as you submit your sitemap. Usually the first indexed page will be your home page. Other pages will be indexed in a few days so you should wait a little bit and then check the results.

And as ‘twin892’ said, meta descriptions have nothing to do with indexing of yor pages but with ranking.

Despite what the shamans and warlocks may stipulate…

Meta Descriptions will increase your rankings so long as it is a DESCRIPTION not a passage full of keywords.

Good incoming links will increase PR, but it won’t give you anything more than that. In terms of how it is used:

I can give your business a link; but if you are unworthy, it’s emphasis is invalid hence devaluation of the link.

For the same reason link farm/sales of link(s) fail.

Maybe your content is not unique - a copy from somewhere else, your too many spam keywords, robot may not see anything worth indexing for showing in search results.
