Why doesant the search box do what it should & search the whole site for whatever you put in it.
If a customer wants to look up a part number on my site, The have to go to advanced search, Type it into code search, (not description or it wont show up anything) By this stage the customer will probably confused & have logged off.
E Commerce systems have to be as simple as possible, Why put up fences in front of our customers… Search should search the whole site.
Tech help said i could get a custom mod coded…I dont think so,enough money spent.
Most E Commerce stores get this wrong, with the exception of Zen Cart.
Can anyone shed some light on this, Or is this ok for most peoples stores??
Hi,
I don’t think I would want everything searched. May bring back too many irrelevant results.
When setting up a product, there is a field called “Search Words”. I put in the product code in this field, plus other relevant key words, even if not in the description. The search will then find the product code and return the product.

So ironic that he could have solved this with… a search!
I was able to get this working to search by product codes. One issue I’m having though is that it is case sensitive. Is there any way around this. For example, if my product code is AEROG7, searching aerog7 will not return results.
The “SEARCH WORDS” has been our best search tool, we look daily at the “Product search” word logs what the customer uses and see what pages are shown to them then we take the search word they used and copy/paste to correct product under “search words” or what you want to sell them, next time they or anyone uses the word it comes up. Works like a charm ,it is some work at first but very rewarding, I have sold alot of slow moving items this way
