Hi
Some of my customers have problem where after they pay with paypal
that they notice that items are still in in their shopping cart . This seems to happen to about 20% of the people.
Im thinking this might be because after making Paypal payment that they do not click to return to my website or maybe its a cache settings problem on their end.
I am currently using 2.0.12
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Your guess about them not clicking the link to return to your site is probably correct.
The “cart” isn’t removed until the paypal payment is completed by the return to the site.
thanks .
Thats what i thought also. Will advise custoemrs and hopefully that is reason.
The software will clean up these old carts at some point. I think the timeframe is 2 weeks old. But yes, for a customer it could definitly be confusing. For a developer, the mindset of paypal requiring a user to initiate the return is mind-boggling.
The best / easiest fix for this age old problem is to use Paypal Express checkout instead! Unless you have a definite reason for using “PayPal Standard Checkout” (for example Express Checkout is not available for use in your country), then save yourself & your customers the grief by simply using Express Checkout instead.
As I understand it (but could certainly be wrong), PPE requires someone to login to their paypal account whereas PPS allows them to use a credit card without logging into their PP account (why someone would select PP without a PP account is beyond me but…). Also, for many merchants, obtaining and correctly installing the certificates required for PPE causes them to glaze-over.

Regardless of whether you setup your store to use Paypal Standard (old fashioned antiquated garbage!) or Paypal Express checkout, the customer must have a Paypal account to pay thru Paypal, no difference either way. (Now, if you use Paypal Pro as your credit card merchant account, then in this case the customer does not need a Paypal account to pay via credit card, perhaps that is what you are referring to. This is because Paypal Pro is an actual merchant account.)
The real benefit is that Express checkout is designed with a tighter, more seamless integration similar to an actual payment processor in that it eliminates the borderline retarded need for customers to click a flippin button to return to your site after making the payment (which is where all of the problems have come from with Paypal Standard over the years, they often do not return to your site thus we now have incomplete orders, confusion & wasted time!).
Setting up for Paypal Express payments in CS-Cart is actually quite simple as it is fully integrated as a standard payment type. You can now choose either the “Certificate” or newer “Signature” method for Paypal authorization within CS-Cart. Of course navigationg thru Paypal’s site to set things up is always a treat, but no more difficult to setup Express Payments than any other options they have.
So, to make a long story short, anyone which chooses to use Paypal Standard over Paypal Express Payments is an absolute fool & deserves all of the wasted time & lost sales they are sure to experience in doing so! I actually feel sorry for some users in countries which do not yet allow the use of Express payments, as they have no choice but to continue dealing with the problems.
Hi,
I use PayPal standard on another site (express not available). I just ran a sample transaction and found that to use a credit card with standard you do NOT need a Paypal account and you don’t have to create one.
With PayPal express, you have to create an PayPal account if using a credit card and did not previously have an account. It also looks like PayPal changed the interface recently for PayPal standard and it looks more up to date with several improvements. I have had vew failed orders.
I have seen recently, that some sites I visit have changed to PayPal standard to mitigate PCI compliance issues since all the CC processing is at PayPal.
I noticed that in CS-CART if you use both Express and Standard, both show up when selecting methods in checkout pages.
I will be using PayPal Express for PayPal (once the fixes are applied per bug report) and using another method for credit card payments.

Hello Bob,
Thank you for your clarifications, apparently I was wrong re: the need to have a Paypal account to pay via credit card with Paypal Standard.
I can see where that could be a benefit to a store owner which is only using Paypal to process payments. In our case the need for any of our customers to create a Paypal account (if they don’t already have one) would never be an issue considering we also allow them to pay via credit card thru our merchant account processor, so Paypal Express payments is only needed when a customer actually wants to pay thru their Paypal account. We allow customers to pay via credit card (Paypal Pro), COD, Paypal Express Payments, and Purchase Order (for our b2b customers which we have pre-approved for open account status). So, odds are very unlikely that we would ever get a complaint from a customer having to create a Paypal account to pay thru Paypal.
Everything else I stated was spot on, that much I promise!
I can still remember the “good old days” when we would rcv calls from customers that went something like "I placed an order with you about 3 weeks ago thru Paypal and never rcvd my order, then after 20 minutes of trying to figure out why we have no record of their order, & then after scouring thru the Paypal account transaction files & actually finding that the funds were transferred to our account for this mystery order, the clear problem was that the customer never clicked the flippin button to return to our site from Paypal…NICE! So yeah, once you go with Paypal Express Payments you will never go back to Standard Payments, it will be “Good Riddance”, & your job will instantly become easier!
