There is already a bug listed in Bug Tracker for this issue but I want to know how other online stores in the USA are dealing with sales tax being incorrectly applied to a pre-coupon order total. In other words, a customer enters or receives a coupon or promotion on their order and the sales tax is applied to the dollar amount figured before the coupon is applied. It should be applied to the total figured after the coupon/promotion has been applied - the reduced order amount.
I really don’t want to go live with this issue/bug but I haven’t received any help from CS-Cart at the moment via the Bug Tracker.
Any feedback from other online stores applying sales tax and coupons would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Stephanie

We do not use coupons so it is a non-issue for us but here are my thoughts:
- You can collect and remit the higher tax = you are not breaking the law and most individuals do not pay their legally required use tax so it all works out in the end although it may make you slightly more expensive.
- In a round about way I have a similar situation where I pay VAT for raw materials which should be refundable as we are 100% export but it is not possible to get this refund in our situation so the cost is passed onto teh consumer.
- The other option of course is manual refunds which is time consuming and for small orders a big problem.
- This is not that big of a problem unless you have huge volume with coupons an old saying in the tax world - “Do not let the tax tail wag the dog” In this case go live make sales without coupons or refund the money you will be in compliance with tax laws and fair to your customers. Or simply look at it as a slightly higher price.
This either needs to be fixed or the behavior should be determined via options in the Admin. If different parts of the world handle discounts and coupon discounts differently, then the configuration should be set via the admin. As of now, it is not working per US process per scase.

Also that all you know, it is the same issue in germany!
I have the same problem, the the calculation must be:
cross amount
- discount
- shipping
----------------
and from this sum the tax
ok in some tarrifs on dhl germany is tax included and in some not, therefore i must enabled tax for some shipping options and for some not.
I think it is not acceptable wo work with this bug!
I’m also having the same issue with my store. Has CS-Cart or anyone come up with a fix yet?
No, there has been no response from CS-Cart on this issue nor a fix mentioned. I really would like to hear something from them on this. Have you posted your issue to the Bug Tracker yet? There is already a bug posted for it and the more people we get on it, the better.
Here’s the link directly to the bug.

Testing/Developing 2.0.8
Thanks. I just submitted my post to the bug tracker.
Triplex,
Where do I extract these files to in my CS-Cart files? I’ll be willing to try this if it allows me to get the right tax applied to customer orders!
Thanks!
Regards,
Stephanie
Edit: Tried installing this fix and I didn’t see it do anything except for remove my Coupon field during Checkout! What should I be looking for when this is installed, Triplex? Also, I uninstalled it and still don’t have my coupon field back for customers to enter their code. I’m off to check the template files to see if it’s commented out or something…any additional thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated from anyone!
Well, my coupon code field is completely gone and I can’t figure out how to get it back. If anyone has the files for 2.0.8 and could send me the checkout tpl iles, I would be most appreciative. I guess the “discount fix” files hosed my coupon code info for some reason.
My frustration level is at its breaking point, I think!

Stephanie
I will contact in a few hours my coder, he will write me what is important.
I THINK NORMALLY CS_CART MUST FIND A SOLUTION IN FEW HOURS! Thats not normally that all have this critical bug and no fix come.
Hi Triplex,
Any ideas from your coder on how to fix the problem I ran into with the discount fix? I still haven’t been able to get my coupon code entry field back in my cart so customers have no way to enter a coupon code during checkout.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Developing/testing 2.0.8[/QUOTE]
Hello Steph,
please test this, in the addon that i have send before was include a litle bid code for my seo additional.
Please test it before use it in life shop!
Thanks, Triplex. My shop is still in testing and development mode so no fear about being live but I do need to figure out why my coupon code field is gone. Once I get that fixed, I will try your updated fix to see if it works.
Regards,
Stephanie
Update: my coupon code box is not appearing correctly, my promotions are now working correctly and the tax is now being applied AFTER the discounts are subtracted! Yippee!!
Thanks to everyone who helped me get this all straightened out. Of course, there’s still a bit of a discrepancy on the rounding of numbers at the item level with discounts but that’s not a big deal - it’s only pennies and hopefully I can get that straightened out, too.
Thanks again!
Regards,
Stephanie
Hi,
Can someone please tell me how they managed to sort this out with the discount_fix addon, as i have installed it but can’t get it to work. There are 2 versions, is there any difference between the 2?
Thanks
Mike
Hi Mike,
I installed the second one of this thread and it appears that the discount is working correctly for me now by taking the tax on the reduced amount. Of course, for some reason, not sure if this was part of the fix or not, it shows up correct on the subtotal level but not at the product level so I just decided to hide the tax at the item level in my cart. So far, it seems to be correct with just a penny or two off on the rare occasion and that’s a rounding issue, I believe, from the CS-Cart side. I’m still hoping that CS-Cart themselves will provide the official fix for this at some point. They’re taking a while but the ticket is still open in Bug Tracker so they’re still working on it.
If you have any further questions about the fix Triplex supplied, maybe you can contact him?
Good luck and hope it works for you!
Regards,
Stephanie

Thanks very much for the info. Stephanie. Triplex, would you know what the problem is? I can’t get your discount_fix to work, and am using version 2.0.10. I extracted the files, copied them into the addon folder, and installed them in the addon section in admin.
Thank
Mike
Can anyone help on this please? I am waiting on this before i can send out a special offer to my customers, but can’t do so while i have this problem.
