The Alt-team just finished a mod for us to allow checkout on some of our sites via Authorize.net SIM. The Alt-Team worked with us through each step and quickly fixed a couple issues that were left out in the initial steps.
Now customers can check out on some of our sites without us having to have an SSL installed on the site. The could always choose Paypal before, but now they can also checkout using Authorize.net (SIM) via our normal credit card merchant account through. The SIM method takes the customers checkout over to the Authorize.net website to finalize and then back to our site when it completes.
The primary reason we did this mod was for us to use it on the many Community Versions of CS-Cart we have installed and will go live with soon.
EDIT: We have added the mod as a download for anyone who wishes to use. It is designed to be used in CS Pro or CS Community Edition. We know it works in version 2.1.3 and 2.1.4 and we have tested it in 2.2.1 CE and it works perfect.
EDIT: The original “authorizenet_sim.zip” is for version 2.1.3 and 2.1.4
The file “authorizenet_sim_v2.zip” is for version 2.2.1
Hello Clips,
Don’t you feel as if you are going to loose sales from savvy shoppers noticeing that your site does not have SSL installed?
You may not believe this, however, I would notice the lack off SSL as soon as I started entering any of my personal details on your site and truly would leave, I would never wait to see if maybe the site went secure while I was entering my payment details, would be too late!
Just a thought, your call of course.
So what happens when website owners use other processors like Plimus, Alertpay, Paypal or 2checkout (to name a few) and they don’t have a SSL? These are just a few of the processors that allow “off site” checkout.
Not to mention many (or most) of the people you might buy from on the forum do not have SSL’s installed on their sites. Even CS-Cart themselves does not have an SSL when you are putting in your customer information as they used to use 2co but now I believe they use Plimus which takes you “off site” to give your cc information. That is the same thing this mod does but instead it uses Authorize.net.
This mod is a great way to test and roll out sites that may not have as much traffic but still want to provide a secure method of checkout…other than Paypal express which charges HUGE fees and is often times a pain the butt. Likewise, I really don’t want to set up another merchant account in order to use something like Plimus, etc. We already use authorize.net on our primary sites, so this allows us to use the same merchant account for our sites, but again, it still allows the customers information to be safe and secure.
In the long run, I guess we will find out.
Does SIM have the option to manage the payment as a pre-payment?
I ask this because some customers don’t have the tools to integrate their online inventory with the store inventory.
So any online sales is taken as pre-payments, and is executed once the stock is secure and ready to ship.
Paypal doesn’t allow to do this.
Thanks.
Hi,
I am using Cresecure (ssl off site), and also PayPal, PayPal Express and Amazon payments. All of these use their own ssl.
I decided, and just renewed my ssl for the site, because customers expect to see it secure cart pages.
I have pay by check and that is within the checkout, that I think should be secure.
There are also other pages that are https pages. One is the account sign it and account create pages.

I’m not for sure if this is what you mean, but you can change the settings to…
“Authorize” only
…or…
“Authorize & Capture”
So if you choose the “authorize” only setting you can “capture” it later when you have the item in stock. Is this what you meant?
@pbannette
On the SSL, we may figure out we will need to add something there someday. I do know that we recently launched an upgraded site and before I got the SSL installed about a half dozen people placed an order. I was kinda of surprised then.
I honestly couldn’t tell you how many sites I proceeded through a checkout without the SSL until I got to the cc part. I actually would prefer to NOT give my cc information to every little merchant out there. In my mind a site like authorize.net is going to be more “secure” than any puny little site I build. Of course the big dogs are targeted more too, but I still feel they have better resources to stop the idiot hacks.
Thanks Jim. This “authorize” option seems to be quite useful. I’ll check on authorize.net
Post edit:
I found this info on http://developer.authorize.net/guides/SIM/ under Credit Card Transaction Types:
…“When an Authorization Only (Auth_Only) transaction is submitted, it is sent to your processor for authorization. If approved, the transaction is placed in your Unsettled Transactions with a status of Authorized/Pending Capture. The authorization places the funds on hold with the customer’s bank, but until the transaction is captured, the funds transfer process does not take place. This can be useful in situations where you need to make a sale, but won’t be able to ship merchandise for several days; you can authorize the transaction to ensure the availability of funds, then, once you have shipped, you can capture the transaction to obtain the funds.”…
