Only suggestions I can offer are be sure to clear the template cache after template modifications and check your character escaping () on your regex statements.
you might want to reconsider your solution - if you were able to have codes (part numbers associated) with your attributes, would it be more comfortable.? basically - have options as thier own products with thier own product codes…
