No Index Https

Hi there,

My mind is still boggling over this one. Can someone explain why CS-CART thought it was a good idea to include the following line in the SEO addon?

<meta name=“robots” content=“noindex{if “HTTPS”|defined},nofollow{/if}” />'

What this means is that if you decide to serve your entire site from HTTPS is that google will start dropping pages from its index :) Which is not what you want. This recently happened to one of my clients when I started using HTTPS for the entire site. Made me look bad. I guess it is my fault, but I don’t see why CS-CART are making decisions about what content is crawled by Google.

Lucky enough our rankings came back up, but it took a few weeks and we no longer rank for keywords which we ranked at #1 before…

I hope someone else finds this useful :)

If I am not wrong google now recommends entire website to be https, but having noindex noflow is like retirement from business.

On 2x had enabled backend and checkout with ssl support, did not even realize index.php was accessible with https too, google gave instant prority to enter site as https and not http and within week all my indexed pages were erased. This costed me a lot of visitors ~3 months to recover…

Just wondering,

In the past, I thought that indexing https was not desirable, so code that would prevent this was added.

Now, Google decides to change the rules based on what THEY want and creates havoc with many shop owners.

Seems like Google is the root cause of many problems due to constant changing of what they consider as desirable.I may change to https at some time, but not as soon as Google decides things should be changed. Seems like there are many considerations, including what natewallis found to changing to to full https site.I am waiting to CS-Cart to find every area that can be impacted by going to a full https site, and then making it a global option in the cart.

Bob.

guys… there is a srcticle how to setup this…

this is it - CS-Cart Documentation — CS-Cart 4.15.x documentation

actually, everything is simple - it was designed so :-)

in CS-Cart 4.3.x they added ability to make whole site on HTTPS, but in previous versions for store front it was possible to set for:

  • checkout pages;
  • login and profile pages;

    these group of pages have no need in tracking by bots, that is why that code condition about HTTPS appeared in SEO module code
