(mt) Media Temple now supports global options off!

When I first purchased CS-cart I had problems running it on my Media Temple hosting. They did an htaccess workaround until the Grid Server technology was implemented. That have come and this is what I found in my web panel today.

* Each (gs) has it’s own php.ini and runs with ‘safe_mode’ off. This means that you can edit your php settings in any way you wish.

* Script paths on the (gs) are much different than on the (ss) environment. The new path you should include in your scripts will look something like:

/home/###/domains/yourdomain.com/

You should be prepared to make this change after your migration.

* Scripts that use mysql need to be updated, instead of using ‘localhost’ they will use something like

internal-db.s###.gridserver.com

to connect to the MySQL server. This URL will be supplied after a migration.

* Database user names and passwords will not change after a migration.

I’ve just begun the migration process and I still do not know if will go as smooth as it says it will. I am afraid my cart may become temporarily inaccessible but just in case I backed up my database.

I will post again in 13 hours once the migration process is completed.

P.S: They have lots of more space and bandwidth now for a very low price! Oh and it supports 100 different domains PER account! Perfect for resale!

Okay, so the upgrade process has been completed and this is the result so far:

When trying to pull up my store I get this message:

Error: Cannot connect to the database server

Backtrace:

File: /home/5724/domains/willbethinc.com/html/shop/index.php

Line: 41

Function: require

I believe this was to be expected since they said the paths to the scripts and database would be different in the Grid Server. So now I should find the config.php file and make the necessary adjustments.

Perfect! After editing the “localhost” line to the current database path, the site came back to life as if nothing had happened!

Looks to be major issues with this “grid” server…and its looking like more of a cluster and buzzwords, to promote false promises from MT…
