I have a LOT of main categories (58) with 810 total categories. The problem is now that I have gone to a responsive design and only have a top menu; that top menu is HUGE. Even on a full screen desktop it takes up about 1200x400 of screen space. So when the page loads you don't ever see it because the top part of the screen stays the same and you don't see the bottom of the page load.
So I need to condense my main categories into a few relative categories. The problem is that all my urls will change and don't want to be penalized for it. I know I can go through and do some 301 redirects but will 4.3.1 do this automatically or will I have to do it manually? I know the products automatically redirect to new url's so wasn't sure if categories do too…or if there is an add-on that would do it. Open to suggestions.
Did you check 3rd party top menu on the marketplace? E.g.

I guess I am overthinking this. I didn't even think about getting rid of the default menu and creating my own with something different. Sometimes I just need a little nudge in the right direction. Thanks.
Okay, got it figured out (sort of).
