Its technical possible to PUSH notifications to mobile phones. Pushover offers this for ios and Android. Desktop and other platforms are coming.
This means that its possible to instantly alert customers on their phones about the status of their order, products back in stock, shipment notifications, etc.
It could also be used to alert webshop staff about new orders.
No CS-Cart mobile app is needed. And as CS-Cart will soon offer a responsive skin, PUSH notifications would make the mobile experience complete.
Other e-commerce software is implementing this functionality. I hope that CS-Cart will offer it too.

Is something very similar, developed long time ago. Made it available for public, seems that there is more interest on it.
Interesting… because you need the device ID # for the phone in order to send it a push notification… The only way I'm aware of getting that is having the customer provide it, or getting it via an app that is installed
Seems easier to just send a text message
