Limiting Category Depth

I am trying to figure out how to limit the category depth. We are running CS-Cart 4.2.2 with the new responsive theme. The catergories are being diplayed verticaly on the left side but I don't want to display the subcategories when hovering over them. Any ideas how do make this work?

Use the my changes add-on and hooks located in the design/themes/THEME/templates/blocks/sidebox_dropdown.tpl file
