Just made my site into a html catolog but it adds /catalog/ in url so therefore indexed pages will nolonger be valid and the site will throw 404’s
How to fix this, I would have expected tcs cart to automatically 301’ed to all the new urls?

Simple fix, don’t use this feature… 
I see far more disadvantages to the whole HTML catalog concept than than I do real advantages. The main purpose behind this is to make your product pages load faster and IMO it is really rather outdated thinking. Years ago the other thought behind this was that static pages ranked higher in search engines vs. dynamic pages, well… things have changed.
In fact, I truly wish CS-Cart would totally delete the “Catalog option” from the core!
Focus more on just getting your overall site speed up by choosing the proper hosting service, eliminating html/css errors, optimize your images, etc, etc. and continue to enjoy the benefits of dynamic product pages!

The HTML catalog option has solved my slow cart issue. I increased my servers memory, I also added that optomizer sccript but my site would totally slow down. After changing to the HTML catalog option the loads in a sensible amount of time. I am not sure if this is just a 2.0.11 issue?
On my same dedicated server I have a 2.0.12 cart and I have not yet converted it to a html catalog since it still needs the products loaded but is not suffering from slow speed or causing the server to over load.

I got 170 products and about 25 cats
Initially I was hosting on my dedi box in Holland and noticed that all my wordpress sites had recently started to get a bit slow (abot 300 sites) I thought I might be doing to much work and its causing my server problems.
I was about to install super cache on all my WP sites when in phpMyadmin I realised that it was infact the cs cart opening lots of services and not closing them.
Alot of people on this forum have written on this forum about it and how their sites eventual have a massive server load and the sites load time go sky high
Anyway, I thought that myabe it could aslo be due to my apache version, mysql, php and bought a new box in the States with all the latest gear. However this being the only site on ,my box at the time it still had the same issues.
I increased the memory usage through config and on my server setting to 256M, I also installed the optizer scripts but no luck
I know that some people here have got around the problem by setting up a cron job to regularly clear the cache, however I ended up calling cs acrt who gave me a link performance link to their kb section and eneded up converting my site to a htnl version and all issues fixed regarding speed
I am setting up a 2.0.12 and will see if the same issues happens on this build and need to build one mores ite and byu that time will prob be 2.0.13 and can check then aswell.

You can redirect your pages to the new URL with /catalog/ but the /catalog/ subfolder can’t be removed from the URL (I had the same problem months ago).

Hi Indy, what version of cs cart did you have to change the site into a html version? Are you finding any speed issues with 2.0.12? Also I noticed a lot of sites like those in the live shop section of cs cart running quite fast especially that watch site without making their site into a html one.
There must be some additional tweaking required to get a cs cart site as fast as that watch site… maybe cs cart can tweak it when you pay for support and they know how to do it… because that watch site is damn fast!

- In the v2.0.12 you can turn the “Catalog” on, I don’t know how in the previous versions
- The speed depends on more factors like hosting (server), active features in your CSC, using of add scripts on your site, calculation of “real time” shipping costs, etc…

You had provided a link to a site speed tester a couple weeks ago where you could test your site speed on like 60 servers worldwide.
I think it would be useful for Badmash to test his site their & report back with his results for comparison.

Oh yuou mean pingdom… yeah before was like 15 seconds now it is at 6 seconds most of the time
I would like a 2 seconds speed load but will try on my new build that I am working on - however if I manually count 1000, 2000, 3000 then withing 3 seconds my site pages load and I am happy with it at the moment…
A lot of my wordpress site are at 1 second load speed and now thats hot! Even with like 30 plugins…
CS cart needs some sort of stripped down version of it self or something… more like WP, clean fast easy to code

I was averaging like 0.6 second page loads, but if Indy can provide that link we can do some comparisons which will give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect when everything is “right”.

Struck let me finish my new site, 2.0.12 (without html catalog settings) and will report when finished.
My WP sites are averaging 1.57 sec
I suppose my current spped is right compared to yours since my page size is 53248 - my hosting is also in USA Cali since I had a bad experience with UK hosting
Badmaash, it is also important that you show us your page size when comparing.
Also, please note that we DO have stats enabled, and are NOT using the html Catalog feature!

What I like about this is it gives you a clear snapshot of your site performance worldwide.
Like I mentioned, what I really care about is how it performs here in the USA, and when I see page loads of like .40 seconds for LA, or Chicago .62 seconds, then I am quite pleased!

Considering your are on a dedi box, & sounds as if you have the financial resources, etc, I would increase your memory some more and then set your config settings accordingly. I think you are cutting it a bit thin there…
Also, dont overlook your DB server, make sure that is not a bottleneck for you!
