In bug tracker, what is the difference between “Fixed” and “Fixed in next version” ?

Probably,
Fixed = in the current official version
Fixed in next version =? it has been fixed, but the new version isn’t available to download yet
So, for “Fixed,” do they go and modify already released code, update the demo site and update the files in download area?
Strange, should there be some “sub-version” added to the released code?

I don’t know, might be an idividual fix as well.
They are the same thing as best I can tell and are just used inconsistently by different staff members. It would be nice if they used 'fixed in next release" only for unreleased fixes and then changed the status to “fixed” when the new version is released.
