This topic is about how we handle translating CS-Cart software into languages other than English. This is a community effort, for which we use a dedicated service—Crowdin.
General questions
-
What is Crowdin?
Crowdin is a web service for collaborative translation. It allows any community member to contribute to the translation of CS-Cart software.
-
Who can take part in the collaborative translation?
Anyone can suggest a translation! The only requirement is signing up for Crowdin itself. You can do that by creating an account or signing in through other services.
-
Do you include these translations into CS-Cart by default?
Yes! However, we only include the translations, which are at least 50% completed.
-
Can I download a translation for my CS-Cart site?
Yes, you can download any completed or partially completed translation for the available languages free of charge from here: http://translate.cs-cart.com/.
Here is how to install these translations: http://docs.cs-cart.com/latest/user_guide/look_and_feel/languages/translate.html#download-an-existing-translation
Note: These translations are designed only for the latest version of CS-Cart currently available.
Validation
-
Who validates the translations?
All submitted translation suggestions are regularly verified by native-speaking validators. A validator or a proofreader checks all translations submitted in their language: edits, accepts, or rejects them. It is a validator’s responsibility to keep the translations into their language correct and up-to-date.
-
Can I become a validator?
Many of our best validators are also our regional partners who offer CS-Cart software tailored for local markets. So our partnership program is a good place to start: https://www.cs-cart.com/partnership.
Additional questions
-
The language I need is not on the list, how can I add a new language?
If there is no language you need to translate, please contact us, and we may address that.
-
I have a complete translation, can I somehow upload it?
Yes! Crowdin accetps files in PO format. If you translated CS-Cart software through CS-Cart interface, you can export it from the list of all languages and then upload the file in the PO format to the project at Crowdin.
-
Can I make translations for Store Builder and/or Multi-Vendor?
Yes! Many translations for Store Builder apply for Multi-Vendor as well. Things specific to marketplaces are located in the
/editions/mve.po
file. -
Is it possible to make a translation for a right-to-left direction languages like Arabic, Hebrew, etc?
Yes! You can translate language variables of a right-to-left direction language in CS-Cart or at CrowdIn. Some RTL languages are already enabled on the Crowdin side.
-
I notice in your online demo and trial version that German, Italian and some other translations are partial. Why is that so?
On Crowdin, the community only translates CS-Cart software itself. Demo data (like product names, descriptions, categories, etc.) is only available in English for now. As you replace this data with your own product and categories, you’ll be able to have it in multiple languages, because CS-Cart software allows that.
Feel free to contact us if you have any specific questions, and we will be glad to help you.
