I need to change the Categories menu horizontal and the subcategories to appear in a separate side box. but I found this hard to implement. Any one has a idea

You’ll most likely need to edit the header template file and do some custom coding there to make a horizontal menu that has drop-down and slide-out capability. There are hundreds of such menu examples across the web that I’m sure you could implement into your design. Just do a google search and adapt one that you like to suit your needs.
