Anyone know how many installations are out there and how many new ones are sold each year? How does this compare to other similar products?
I don’t know about the real answer to your question, but there are 1,774 members on this forum so I would imagine that there are at least many installations of CS-Cart out there. Also if you do a google search for CS-Cart you’ll get 639,000 hits, so I would imagine that means something.

Good way to find out is to looks at your license number, they’re all counting upwards from my knowledge

So back in 2006 Cs-cart sold 600 licenses at least…
Mine is 100005376, so by February 5th, 2008, they’ve had 5376 buyers.
And 26 installations by CS-Cart staff.
Is that a healthy amount or do they need more to be sustainable and pay those wages?
I guess it would all depend on the size of the company. I know that CS-Cart cost less when I bought my first license than it does now, but if you figure an average of $125.00 per installation that would be $672,000.00
Along with the cart licenses CS-Cart also does custom work. I know that I myself have spent a few hundred dollars with them. You also have to include the fact that they offer paid support, cart installation and other services.
I would imagine that the company is probably doing alright, but I don’t blame them or disagree with the recent changes of their upgrade policy which is probably why this thread got started in the first place.

An increase of ~4700 buyers in ~18 months.
I purchased at $195.
~4700 x $195 = ~$916,500
~$916,500 / ~18 months ~= $50,916 / month
Whether or not this is a healthy amount, I’m not sure either.

$50,916 / month - is enough to continue, for sure

Geez, now I feel pretty stupid. Out of 5376 customers, I was one of only 26 not smart enough to be able to install it myself. 
Well the cart was bought that many times, however, it is possible that some buyers purchased more than one license.
