The responder by default puts a lot of personal info int othe email that I don’t want to send. I would also like to modify it and add my own body. I am using Version 4 single storefront.
Modify 1 or more of the templates in:
/design/themes/basic/mail/templates/profiles

If you're wanting th alter what's sent when the “customer” registers then you need to use 'themes'. If you want to alter templates when the admin edits a profile it would be in 'backend'.
Usually the backend stuff just uses the theme stuff so as to not duplicate the templates.
