Google Sitemap

How does the CS-CART Google Sitemap Addon work. It does not generate sitemap.xml on my root. I currently use external service but this is troublesome. Has anyone used this before? Any recommendations?

I am using v. 2.0.12

Thanks.

It does it in the var/exim directory. It will grap the appropriate data for your site as an SEO name. Try putting

http://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

and you should see what was generated.

But your site does not seem to be using the cart’s sitemap generator. The comment in your sitemap says:

Sitemap File Generated by http://www.freesitemapgenerator.com/ at Sun, 10 Oct 2010 07:33:31 +0200

Thanks tbirnseth. I know that I am not using CS-Cart’s sitemap. I do want to use it but don’t know how. Couldn’t find anything on var/exim. Should the sitemap be generated automatically or should I trigger it? If so, how?

You need to have the addon installed. Then you need to click a link in the addon settings to re-generate it (it’s a funky thing to do, but that’s how it works). This will create the file for you. But as long as you have an actual sitemap.xml in the root of your store, the SEO processing will never happen so you’ll never see it.

Hello,

I don’t have any sitemap.xml in the root folder, and it not display in thy EXIM folder? how do I get it to display there?

thank you

Tom

I did the addon, but its still not in the folder.

As I said before, you already have one that is not cs-cart generated. Take a look yourself: http://www.karmakiss.net/sitemap.xml

Hey, this is a different user who asked the last questions. Just for the record, I deleted my sitemap.xml from root, and tried to generate a new sitemap with the addon, but nothing happened. Decided it’s not worth the time and trouble.

Actually, it is definitely worth the time and trouble if you care about rankings and indexing…

There’s a stupid button or link in the addon that says something like “recreate the cache”… Clicking it will regenerate the info. I don’t know how theirs works (whether it generates dynamically or whether it’s static in the exim directory).

Sorry, didn’t realize different user… But the fact is you had a different xml sitemap file per the link above. I used the link in your signature to get to the base store and then added sitemap.xml. And you still have this header comment in the file:

Sitemap File Generated by http://www.freesitemapgenerator.com/ at Mon, 07 Feb 2011 22:37:16 +0100

Agreed, if it worked for me…

Deleted the external sitemap.xml, cleared the cache as instructed, but still no new sitemap is generated for me neither in the root directory, nor in var/exim. Any idea why?

Before I was with creload cart, I was getting 2000 hits per month, but since I switch to cs cart, I lone get 67 hits per month if I’m lucky. I been with cs cart for about 9 months now. Any idea why my hits drop?

thanks in advance

Tom

Does anyone use Search Engine Visibility from godaddy?

does it really works?

Nope, it would require investigation… I’m assuming you are not seeing any error messages and both your php error_log and your browser’s error console are both free of errors related to the sitemap… Other than that, would be an exercise in debugging and diagnosis. Can’t usually be done via forum.

I set up a new website with CS CART 2.2.1. Google Sitemap addon works just fine, but it generate urls without the “www” (e.g. http://stylishnomad.com…).

However, when I try to submit it to Google Webmaster they say I need to generate it with “www”. Anyone knows how to do it?

Thanks,

Guy

That's how you set it up in /config.local.php…without the www. You either need to set your site up with the www or you need to instruct google (via your webmaster account) that you do not use the www.

I use Google Sitemaps (Add on) from Cs-cart version 2.2.2.

I saw that do not index pages from the top menu and the pages are links from banners (example: Tutoriale, Live demo, Download … or banners such as Soft camere IP or Intrebari frecvente (sorry for the Romanian language).

Can I do something like these pages to be indexed in xml file?

If I use www.xml-sitemaps.com everything is indexed ok.

My website is www.foscam.com.ro

Thanks,

Emil

Sorry for necroposting, but I had a similar issue and for me since it was so large it made three sitemap files. Sitemap1.xml, sitemap2.xml, and sitemap3.xml

Have anybody submitted a huge sitemap to Google WebMaster Tools aka Search Console?

I've never added it there and I rarely kept the content pages clean (like hidding useless content etc.) and now I've cleaned it a bit and I am wondering if I should submit it?

I'm a little concerned about the consequences. If I've never submitted it, but had a sitemap link in the footer, did Google still use it? What should I expect of submitting it all of the sudden?

I hope there wont be drops in rankings...

I have submitted sitemap.xml to Google with more than 2000 pages. Google love it.
