Google site verification

Hi all

I’m new to CS cart, and I have a COMMONLY asked question!

How do I get site verification in Google?

I have tried adding a tag to /skins/your_skin/customer/meta.tpl and it can’t be seen by Google!

I have also tried the HTML verification file option, but where, EXACTLY, do I upload it to?

I have read “in the root folder” or “home folder”. What are these terms referring to exactly? As I have tried it in several locations with no success!

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I’m very keen to learn.

Thanks, in anticipation :-(

In the root of your hosting, ie. in the folder commonly named “public_html” or “httpdocs” - in essence, the folder in which your addons, controllers, core, images, js, lib, payments, schemas, shipping, skins and var directories exist.

Hi StellarBytes

Thanks for your reply, and I know I must be being pretty stupid, but I still have no idea where you mean!

What am I missing here? I go into skins/myshop and I can't find anything that relates to your directions! Whatever folder I look in!

Sorry for being a div!

Why are you looking in skins/myshop? The 'root' folder is the folder ABOVE the skins folder.

Are you accessing the file manager via the Template Editor in CS-Cart? Presumably not via FTP otherwise it would have been impossible to miss.

I'm accessing via the Template Editor. I'm guessing I need FTP access?

Yes you do need FTP access for file upload verification or a file management tool which most hosts provide in their control panel.

Thanks for the help.

I’ll do some digging around and post back if I succeed.

Thanks again for your kind help :-)

I'm now attempting ftp access and have another simple question.

What do I put in as the Host address?

And anything else I should be aware of in the settings to gain ftp access?

More often than not…

Host: ftp.yourdomain.com

Username: yourhostloginusername

Password: yourhostloginpassword

Who is your host?

I'm with a small hosting company called LWR Online, which is probably not much help!

Nope, never heard of them although it looks like they do offer cPanel. You will be able to upload the Google verification file using the cPanel File Manager, in this case, to the 'public_html' folder.

I’m in and verification is sorted!

Thanks again for all your help :-)
