Hi all, I had had cs-cart for a good few years and have forever been in the slow part of googles performance rankings for site speed forever and am currently.slower than91% of sites on the internet with a page load of 5 seconds. Is anyone here who is runing cscart in the fast area of googles speed performance or is it not possible on this platform.

I installed the page speed addon for chrome and am getting 84 on homepage and 80-94 on product pages.
I am with Martfox too on VPS 5000 products and about 70 categories.

Oscommerce and the likes carts load faster, but is a nightmare on security and customization. Google's pagespeed ask mostly for CDN and css sprites to give CS a higher ranking. The sprites can be done, and the CDN could be near the corner.
There is some pretty fast carts on CS, but have been “tuned” on the server. Try your cart as a demo in other well know host, maybe you could get better results.
Im just curious, we have about 1100 products and 200 categories but know how crucial page speed is not only to google but to customers too! Id like to get the most from the cart.maybe share ideas etc. for instance I have headers expires enabled, smart optimizer and running sqlite on a vps with 256ram
Have you done css sprites? this is recommended so the browser reduce #request on the server.
Have you optimize your images? you can save 1k here and there and save .xx seconds total.

This for the front end. For the back end ask the VPS wizards on the forum for some help.
I have just downloaded the free webo site speed optimizer and OMG what a mahooooosive difference it makes on CS-Cart. Google Page Speed now give 81/100 which is pretty amazing. This incorporates CSS Sprites and javascript minify etc etc.

Just install modpagespeed on top of it and you will score >90 easily (I have one shop scoring average of 94)

There are many comparisons right here on the forum. It’s a great piece of software… but I think the conclusion was that it’s not THAT much faster then Smartoptimizer.
only thing I am having problems with with webo is that lightbox has stopped working when trying to minify or combine javascript files. I have excluded these files in the hope it would work but lightbox doesn't function. Anyone got any ideas. I had smartoptimizer installed and webo is much faster.
I excluded these;
tiny_mce.js tiny_mce_src.js tiny_init.js tiny_mce_gzip.php fckeditor.js scriptaculous.js lightbox.js prototype.js lightbox.previewer.js prettyphoto.previewer.js fancybox.previewer.js

edit:scrap that, it doesn't work as well as I thought. When going from ssl back to http:// it throws an incompatible encoding error and then the customer is unable to get back to the store without typing in http://
