First Attempt at Skin Design

I am still trying to find firm footing when it comes to changing the layout and developing addons but I’ve been working with a client to give them a fresh look.

I’m open to honest feedback and if anyone knows of a great primer to changing product view and category layouts I am definitely interested in tackling it.

Thanks again for the great community here.

White on Red, then White on Black is hard to focus on.

Junk this: http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/google-map - Get the actual Google Map code, that’s provided directly from google.

Don’t give me images to look at that I can’t click on - bike on right-sidebar.

I appreciate the feedback.

How do you talk your clients into forgoing some of their choices, i.e. the white on red, white on black transition?

I can either educate them by providing examples of other websites that they are trying to mimic or flat out tell them what I think.

The latter choice is pretty straightforward choice however doesn’t make friends - I’m usually not wanting to make friends anyway.

If you want to educate, head to usertesting.com and get a review done on the domain, it’s $30 well invested however you’ll have to go without junk food for two/three days to pay for it (heh). If you want a freebie code let me know and I’ll provide it, not sure if it’s still valid however.

You could try to break the flat colors with subtle gradients on the red background and the letters. Play with 1px stroke contour on the logo, just to create some contrast if gradient letters is not enough.

I try to keep design time to minimum, follow client instructions and try to make the best of it.

If you have the freebie code I’d appreciate it.

Another great suggestion.
