Email Marketing Returns $56 for Every $1 Invested

Hello All,

Return customers are the heart of any business. It is a lot easier to keep a customer than find a new one. The best time to schedule a follow-up is while the customer is on your website, before they leave.

If they don’t buy anything today, they are likely to never return. By offering to your prospects the ability to join your e-mail list, you can begin a follow-up strategy, and transform a prospect into a customer.

If you get a email address to a prospect, you can send to her/him a follow-up by e-mail in about 3 or 5 days to remind them about your offer. Testing will determine how many times you should follow-up.

The more contacts you make, the more sales you will close. If you contact a prospect 5 times, your overall conversion will likely break down as follows:

First contact: about 47%

Second contact about 16%

Third contact about 14%

Fourth contact about 12%

Fifth contact about 10%

Close to 50% of the overall conversion comes from follow-up marketing!

That is true, email marketing works and works really well, especially when you send quality newsletters, not just spammy sales promos… but from my experience it is really complicated to generate a good database of emails that suit your vertical market.

Any ideas on that?

An alternative to the emails is Facebook, there are some emailing marketing solutions (Email Benchmark for example) that will let you post your newsletter in your facebook fan page. In this case, you don’t need emails and the newsletter will be posted on your company facebook fan pagem which will target people that are really interested in your products…

Mailchimp has a concept of “segments”. You can send ecommerce data upon each sale and then you can select users based on what they bought, what category, how much, when, etc…

For instance, I can send an email to everyone (who opt’d in) who purchased something from my ‘addonproducts’ category between Nov1,2010 and today and offer them a coupon on their next addonproducts purchase.

An addon is under test and should be available soon. See: http://forum.cs-cart.com/showthread.php?t=21142 for more info.

The new Mailchimp addon has been released today. Please see this thread for details:

I have the EZ Mailchimp addon. This is my favorite part!! Over at Mailchimp, I can now pull up a list of customers who bought product X and send them a promotional email like those “amazon recommends” emails and suggest products based on their past purchases. Also very cool is the ability to segment customers by the TOTAL amount they’ve spent and send an email to the ‘big spenders’.
