I would love an addon where people look at shipping options and see an expected delivery date range. I am so tired of fielding the “where is my item” emails and calls. People see “3-5 days”, and have no concept of what that really means.

Unfortunately, we rarely use UPS because we operate out of Hawaii, and rates are very expensive. Anything for usps?

Moka, don’t you send any email shipment notifications with carrier & tracking number details to your customers?
I view this as a proactive approach and we do it religiously on every single shipment, essentially providing the details to the customer before they even have time to start wondering where their shipment is.
Alot of our products are custom orders, how would you approach those customers who have a wait time of anything from 3 days to 3 weeks, ideally we would love an expected shipment date option in their client area when they log in.
Create a custom order field of “planned ship date”. You enter the date when you save the order or the status changes. You create a new template that is aware of the new field and send it to the customer. I’d probably make it so it does it on status change to something like “Ship Pending” and then do it if there is a date in the “planned ship date” field.
That’s what I would do , however, I’m sure others all have their own way of looking at things. Trouble is the cart should not be your back-end system. It is a sales tool but everyone expects it to be all things to all people. After an order is placed, the cart should be done with it. Again, just my opinion.

This type of information should be clearly displayed on the individual product pages so your customers clearly understand upfront that they will be experiencing a long delay before placing an order for these items.
