Creating 3.x in another folder and moving it back to root

I have all the images, customers and order data exported from 2.2.x and hoping to do a clean install in a subdirectory and transferring that new site to the root which will wipe out the current 2.2.x store.



Is it that easy? I just want to make sure I'm doing this right.
