A cost field for product listing is standard in most carts. This allows the admin to display the wholesale price in the admin section to be used in order to calculate profit margins, losses, trends and all be based on day, week, month, quarter and annual basis. This report allows admin to decide on re-orders, dropping of low sale producing items etc.
Alot can be done with a bit of info like this in the backend.
