If features and customization is important to you, why not simply invest in the professional version? You’ll then have all the distributed addons from cs-cart available to you and the greatest amount of functionality. You’ll save yourself a lot more time than the $230 is going to set you back.
If you were putting up a small test store to test a market, then yes, the CE version would be appropriate. But you apparently have a mature store, so why not invest in what you know?
