I’ve read that it is better to have a smaller amount of paths in your domain name for seo.
Ex. http://website.com/mp3-players/ipods (would be better than)
Ex. http://website.com/shop/mp3-players/ipod
Right now, my website is set up with the /shop still there. How should I go about getting rid of the /shop directory. Do i need to reinstall the cart?

No, you just need to copy & move your entire CS-Cart install to your site root directory. Then update your config.local.php file to reflect the move.
Yes, that’s what i tryed the first time. But I didn’t know about the config file. Could you explain to me better about what i have to change in the file? Also how will this affect my current ranking in the search engines?
Well I found this. It completely answered my question.
I’m just posting it for anyone else who had the problem.

You will certainly want to redirect your old pages already indexed to your new url structure using the 301 Redirect method, otherwise you will loose the seo ranking for all of your old pages!
In reality, if your existing store has been up & running for a lenght of time thus is already fully indexed in the search engines, it may be far wiser to just leave it where it is, in the same directory you have it! The negatives could quite easily outweigh the pros!
That’s what I’m doing with my store. I did want to move it up in my folder structure but it’s doing great with the search engines where it is (/store) so it’s staying!
