What is correct procedure to backup every folders/files before processing an upgrade?
Is a ftp copy “shop_folder” content into “shop_backup” OK?
To get “shop_backup” in operation: is it sufficient to rename respective folders?
Any other steps required? (permisions?)

I just backup my skin before upgrading.
Whenever i want to backup i use the one provided by my hosting company. that backs up all to a zip file which i download. i also back up the mysql from the hosts control panel as well.
