Automatic newsmail subscription upon registration

Hello,

I wonder if somebody could help me with a couple of minor changes. I’m new to php, so I hope someone can provide me (and others who would like to apply these changes) with simple step by step instructions

I’m using v. 2.0.10.

  1. Can I force a customer to subscribe to a mailing list of my choice upon registration? Best would be if the “Mailing list” section was hidden, so the customer have no choice. If this is not possible, can the checkbox be checked and the format set to HTML by default?

  2. How do I change the stock status of a product to only show “In stock” and to not show the number of items?

  3. I have searched everywhere but can’t find where I change the “Welcome” text at the main page?

    Thankful for any help!

I just found some information about hiding checkboxes and making default settings. I’ll try this first…

I would suggest not forcing someone to join a mailing list - if you did that to me, you would lose a customer.

See the following post for instructions to automatically set the mailing list to checked:

You should be able to preselect the HTML format just below in the same file:

/skins/YOURSKIN/customer/addons/news_and_emails/blocks/subscribe.tpl

Check the following thread for instructions for displaying stock:

Depending on what you mean by welcome message, you can:

  1. On the General tab in Design->Site log, change “Text displayed on the store home page:”
  2. In Content->Languages, search for welcome and then change the value for ‘welcome’ language variable.

Just came across this in 2.0.10.

In Design-Appearance settings, uncheck “Display In stock as a field”. Your stock will be displayed as ‘In tock’ or ‘Out of stock’

Just realized it is not fully implemented yet - you can see it working at the labs site (http://labs.cs-cart.com/admin.php?dispatch=auth.login_form&return_url=admin.php). Use your forum user/password to access the site.

It will probably be part of 2.0.11 (whenever that arrives). In the meantime, you can use the instructions in this thread:

100% true. Nowadays people hate things like pop-up’s, banners, hard advertisement practices, subscribe things, etc.

By the way I have to say, the “Send to friend” (like in CS Cart) or “Tell a friend” mailing function on a site is absolutely OUT. This idea was born about 2005. The way go in the social bookmarking area like here: http://tellafriend.socialtwist.com/

I personaly have never used this feature on a site in my live.
