Anyone interested in slpitting the cost of a forum integration?

Anyone interested in slpitting the cost of a forum integration? I have a ballpark quote from cs-cart dev team of $208 US (± depending on functionality) to integrate user/pass login of cs-cart 1.3.5-sp1 with vbulletin 3.6.7. If enough of us we can integrate this without the worry of wasting money on something that doesn’t work exactly the way we want.

I would definately be interested in this since i own a vB license. However 200+ is steep for a simple “single user login” script. I had inquired about this with other cart providers ( i wont mention names) and every one said for a simple unified login script, would be around 50$. If enough people are interested in this,( say 6 or so )i would be happy to split the cost:shock:

6 or so sounds good to me. I agree that 200 is steep but I can’t code it.

Here are the details.

I have a concern about the registration for the forums being disabled.

I would be all for it, provided vBulletins’ permissions system (eg: groups and titles and such) remain intact.

This would be a “MUST” for me, as in the future, my Vbull install will be more than simple support. It will also be a buying, selling, trading, and auction site.

I would want a “money back” gurantee, that all vBulletins’ permissioning is left in place.

All i am interested in, quite simply, is a bridge to accept a user_name, and user_pass, and giving my members/customers free roam on my site. Profiles should be left independant of eachother. Visitors would just have to setup what ever profile they want for the store, and the vBulletin board.

Another concern is: what if a user changes pass or email address, will that update across both pieces of software. Which piece of software would be responsible for “lost password” recovery. All points to ponder i guess.

This “simple” integration could well become more of a headache than a blessing actually. I know Vbulls login shcemes must be hard to work with, i have seen many ask why they can’t do integration with CMS’s and such.

Guess i would need more than the provided information before committing funds here.

Showcase Hobbies brings up some very valid concerns.

vBulletin has a much more secure salted md5 password and session management system that is not directly compatible with the basic md5 system of cs-cart.

My concern would be in the security of this bridge between the two scripts. I remember not long ago, a similar bridge created between Joomla and VB that created a very bad session hijacking exploit into the forum.

I was going to do this mod for myself long ago but after looking thru the differences in session management and database organization decided to put it off. The version I want for myself will include a combined profile for less client confusion.

I forgot to mention that integration, which is where my concerns originated. In fact, i believe the Joomla integration has been abandoned, or at the very least has become a “Use at your own risk” type of mod.

It would be nice if it could be done, but security these days is a customers FIRST concern, and as store owners, should be OUR first concern as well. I would imagine a customer would be much happier to suffer the small inconvenience of 2 logins, as opposed to risking their accounts and information falls prey to a hacker.

Come to think of it, cs-cart devs haven’t even developed this for themselves here on their own site, which would make life MUCH easier for us. So i have to think that even the uber-gurus here arent entirely comfortable with the idea.
