It's more complicated than I thought but somehow , even though the thumbnail. settings are correct (same as source) something happens and it won't display.. or I didn't look properly because one also needs to clear the cache etcetera to make it show.
My main browser (Opera) also isn't supported as well .. but we will investigate it further tonight.

It will still resize the image and remove the animation. You will have to browse to the path of the image and replace it there.

No just replace the thumbnail with the source image. If you desire you can also give it limited permissions which should prevent it from getting removed during a thumbnail cache clear.

What are you telling me exactly. Replacing the thumbnail with the source images reads to me like I should upload the source (the image that is local on my workstation) into the folder on my server in the root of the store /images/bg_image/4
or what... exactly.

Yes exactly what you described.
We solved it, apparently Skype strips off the animated ability.. we now used WeTransfer and everything looks fine!
Sometimes things can be really this simple!

Now we are in works with new release, but are waiting for CS-Cart new version (as we know about some new features, that can touch theme files or view of some elements).
About blog issue look our docs to theme (special section with solutions) or just write a ticket in our helpdesc and get help from our devs.

While I've opened a ticket with AlexBranding on this issue it seems like it's off general intreast so I'll post my question here:

We're installing a fresh install of CS Cart and Unitheme to upgrade our 4.5.2 store. We installed 4.7.2 and Unitheme (latest rev) successfully on our dev store in a subfolder. We started to style Unitheme, changed layouts, colors, etc.
When we went test updating our data to see what the Store Import tool would do, it uninstalled all the 3rd party add-ons including Unitheme and we lost many of our changes when we re-installed Unitheme.
I read about removing commenting on certain tables in the Table_descriptions.php file. see: https://docs.cs-cart.com/4.7.x/upgrade/store_import_technical_details.html. I tried removing "add-ons" and "add-on descriptions" from the items to be updated. But now we are getting many table errors and it's crashed it.
How do you do a clean install, update the theme and add-ons, colors, etc. then "Actualize" the data wiht the Store Import Tool without destroying your work on the new dev store?

Well, I received a less than informative reply. They don't need to access the server. This install is cooked, it's going to be faster to just start over.
And that isn't the issue:
How do you develop a clean install of the updated store, then update data without the store import tool uninstalling all the add-ons. Because when it does that and you re-install AB: UniTheme (and probably some others) you overwrite their settings files and all your formatting is lost.
You can exclude some individual tables, but the AB: Unitheme one isn't one of them. Nor would that help as it would be overwritten.

You could use MySQL workbench and export the settings tables from the UniTheme.
