Addon: simplified data feeds

Create 2 XML files that can be used by most major shopping aggregaters such as shopping.com, pricegrabber.com, shopzilla.com and Google Merchant (formerly Google Base).

This highly configurable addon will automatically generate 2 different XML files at a frequency you define. One XML file is suitable for most shopping aggregaters and the other is compatible with Google Merchant.

The addon has been tested with both 2.0.15 and 2.1.0 and is available at: http://www.ez-ms.com/addonproducts/xml-data-feeds.html

Documentation is available from the “Attachments” tab on the product detail page above or from: http://www.ez-ms.com/docs/obj_feed_addon.pdf

The goal of this addon is to simplify your product exports by utilizing 2 of the most widely used data formats. The first is based on the Yahoo Store Export (objinfo.xml) and the other is based on the Google Merchant (formerly Google Base) RSS 2.0 extended format as defined by Google.

Each data file has both common and type-specific settings so you have the greatest control over your exports. The RSS 2.0 feed will automatically send to Google after it is created.

Further information (along with screen shots and sample output) is available in the product documentation.

I have this implemented and works a treat!

No more exporting data 100 products at a time and no more updating your feeds!

It’s all done for you!

What is the advantages to do the export not over csv and cronjob?

The XML version is much more configurable than the CSV version. I do not know how you include arbitrary product feature fields in the CSV data feeds.

Most (many at least) shopping aggregators such as shopping.com enable you to specify an XML (or csv ) file and they will go fetch it at a defined schedule and look for differences. This simply means there is less for you to do and to manage from within your cart.

The other key advantage is that these 2 files will support the majority of shopping aggregators that are out there. The only exception are those that require their own specific CSV format. However, those are usually the smaller players in the market.

There is a completely new version of this addon is available (2.1.2).

It is much more configurable than the last version and now supports many of the Google “extended attributes” such as ISBN, MPM, UPC, etc. It will also build the Google “product type” from the category hierarchy that the product is contained in. I.e. watches/windup/this_watch, will have the product type for “this_watch” be “watches > windup” per the Google specs.

The documentation has been completely rewritten to reflect the multi-screen configuration.

Does this plugin still exist for XML export or do we have some other way to do that now ?
