Anyone can register an account on my website, however I have a certain membership which is entitled to a promotion. How do I go about having to approve that membership ONLY and not every user? I do not want regular customers to have to wait on activation in order for them to shop.

What I did was create another type of membership. And when user goes to register they will now have 2 options. Not Member and your membership. They will not get these privileges until you activate that type of membership under their account.
Example I have a regular user and then a reseller option. I have since removed that option during sign up as many users just wanted to sign up as a reseller just to get the discount.
Now I have them request this membership.
