Which version of cs-cart? 3rd party theme?

afaik, imagik just does a better job of image optimising thumbnails, so would only decrease your thumbnail size and Optimize images score.

#220753 Amazon Cdn S3 Nothing More Than Outsourcing Of Webspace For Images ?

Posted by kogi on 29 June 2015 - 03:36 AM

CDN = Content Delivery Network

Lets say you use a CDN for your images, Then your US customers will be downloading images from the US server, your AU customers will be download from the AU server.

The benefits of this are
1) Faster delivery of content by the closest server
2) Taking bandwidth load off your own server
3) Allowing more? better? parallel downloads

#218600 Get Maximum out of 4.3.1: The Best Server Configuration.

Posted by kogi on 13 June 2015 - 12:28 AM

CS-cart 4.3.2
A LOT of extensions disabled
TTFB: 160ms - 180ms
Page load time: 1.5s - 3s ( looks like dependent on VPS host load)

Server Specs
4cpu - 2gb - disk ~400MB/s

Centos 7
Apache 2.4.6 (event mpm, mod_proxy_fcgi)
Php 5.6.9 ( php-fpm, opcache, redis, apcu)
MariaDB 5.5.41
redis server

Additional tweaks
AllowOverride = off and moving all the .htaccess to vhost.conf
(gotcha!, need to rewrite php engine off for proxy_fcgi)
disable access log

Memory budget (rough)
mysql, 512mb
opcache, ~32mb per cart
apcu, ~1mb per cart (budget 4mb?)
redis, NFI, 6mb?
php-fpm, 40mb per child process
apache, 8mb per child process

To Test
Nginx reverse proxy for static content
Nginx reverse proxy for SSL

To Do
Learn nginx (nginx is faster, but need to translate the cs rewrite rules to nginx)

#212502 Upgrade From 2.2.1 To Latest

Posted by kogi on 24 April 2015 - 12:07 AM

1st check if you have lifetime upgrades for that license number

Your old template will not work in v4. plus there are many other changes so it's not advisable to just use the in place upgrade even if its possible

What I Did ( for a v3 upgrade)
  • Backup
  • Install v4 in a sub directory
  • used Store import to import v3 to v4
  • configured the crap out of v4, including a new template
  • test, test, then test again
  • exported and imported changed customers & orders
  • backup again
  • make the new site live by changing the directories
(The old site was moved still function to another directory)

#143788 Suggest Quality VPS hosting

Posted by kogi on 28 August 2012 - 04:19 AM

Most people seem to think VPS mean independent, it doesn't. Your site can be just as affected by other people on the same server as shared hosting. All VPS means is you have more control of resources and if those resources.

It's worse on some environment then others but it not the same as a dedicated server. People are selling VPS with 128mb of ram it's a joke that you couldn't run a mail server on most the time. ServInt ? free backups and cpanel ? yer sure ! your paying $15 a month for the cpanel license which they can't get around. You would be better off with decent real cloud hosting at about $20 imo.

Having a VPS would/should guarantee the amount of memory available to you. Which would remove 1 of 3 bottlenecks in a server. (CPU and Disk Throughput will depend on other users) (ps. you can run a mail server easily on 64mb ram)

For shared hosting - Cpanel costs the hosting company $40 per server. - unlimited users
If you are running a VPS. you would have to be an idiot to need cpanel.

Cloud hosting is a widely misused term.
If you are talking about elastic virtual servers with fail over and load balancing. then you are looking at $70/month per server (and you need 2 or more servers to do fail over and load balancing)

Of if you are talking about shared hosting on the above hardware. Rough guess they start @ $50 / month

In the end it depends on the investment in skill and equipment of the hosting company. You need a group who know what they are doing. Sweet gear, and multiple fat pipes which feed your main customers

#143093 Credit Card details not shown in order details v3.01

A better method of preserving the CC info

replace this
$payment_info = fn_cleanup_payment_info('', fn_encrypt_text(serialize($payment_info)), true);
$payment_info = fn_encrypt_text(serialize($payment_info));

The previous method just neutered fn_cleanup_payment_info. This preserves the function, which can be used to clear the cc info later on
