I am wondering about this too, not wanting to have to pay manually. Using 2Checkout.

You should be able to.

Create the desired directory (secure).

In init.php find:
define('DIR_DATABASE', DIR_ROOT . VAR_PATH . '/var/downloads/');

And change it to:
define('DIR_DOWNLOADS', '/myhosting/username/secure/');

This has worked in previous versions but I can't make it work in 2.2.1 and it might be a server issue.

Would you please try it and see if you can upload files for downloadable products?

When I upload I get errors.

//continue; // don't track inventory

The above has worked for me on many installations and versions.
After commenting out continue; saving and uploading, make sure you delete everything in your cache and compiled directories and clear your browser cache.

I'm having exactly the same issue, but neither of your solutions are working for me. Plus they're on slightly different line numbers.

I'm using v2.1.1

In v2.2.1 Professional Edition

In core/fn.cart.php
Around line 1164 find the line:
continue; // don't track inventory

Change it to:

//continue; // don't track inventory

And that's it, I tested it and it works. And that works in previous versions.

Let me know if it works for you.

I can't upload the file as an attachment as that would be giving it away for free.

You can have a look at how I got around this at My link www.drpetersnews.com under 'free downloads'. I uploaded the file as an Attachment.

I still have the message which says "download link is expired or is not ready" but I changed the wording, under Administration/Languages, to "Please wait for email confirmation of download link"

I could have changed it to "Please wait for email confirmation of download link by next working day" so that visitors will not be checking their email every few minutes for the email.
