New Server

26 July 2006 - 09:28 PM

Hello,

This week my site was moved to a new server at my host and ever since, the store hasn't been working 100%.

First thing is the secure connection, ssl. I have a new URL for the secure pages which has been updated in the config.php file. However when I log into the admin area it doesn't redirect to the secure pages even though botht he check boxes for secure admin and secure check out are checked. It only works if I type in the secure URL and the checkout process does not change to the secure server either.

The last thing is the realtime UPS shipping. It is no longer providing shipping quotes. Insead giving the generic can't ship to your location message. I have checked the settings and nothing has changed. I have the access key, correct username and password and all the package and shipping specs filled out. I also have UPS enabled and no other shipping meathods enabled. I have a handfull of shipping options available, but I just have ground shipping enabled for simplicity until I get it working. It is correctly set to realtime. I'm completely stumpted there.

I have reuploaded all the 1.3.3 files again. Rebuilt my config file using the latest version found in 1.3.3. The only thing I'm suspicious of is the database being up to date. When I re-uploaded the files there were a couple situations where there were missing columns here and there that I just hand created to get it working. Is there an easy way to tell if the DB structure is up to date?

UPS Quotes too high

29 June 2006 - 09:52 PM

Today I received an order for a 70 lb item and CS-cart got a quote of $59.83. When I went to create the shipment with UPS I was charged $30.24 which is nearly half of what CS quoted them. I am not adding any handling charges. I played with the box dimensions and that did not affect quotes. I also changed the pickup type which is supposed to affect the quote but my quotes were all the same. For examply, daily pickup rates should be cheaper than one time pickups.

I usually see quote complaints saying their quotes are less than the actual rates, but mine are much greater. Could there be something wrong with my account with UPS? In this case I'm going to refund the customer the extra amount, but I'm wondering how many customers are scared away by the high shipping quotes.

Marketing your Store

20 June 2006 - 07:18 PM

I'm a coder and a fabricator by trade so the design side of things is always a stretch for me. I've adapted one of the aquarelle skins to match my site. I had the nav boxes match exactly, but it didn't look as professional to me and I liked it being slightly different so I left them black.
Store -> http://www.4x4trailhunters.com/store/

The last thing that I really need to work on is the main page. I only have a few products right now so I'm kind of stumped as what I should fill that in with. Should I just have some pictures of the products with their price that link to their page? I want to run a sale and was going to advertise it there. What do you guys suggest?

My other question is how do you market your website? My site started as and continues to be a 4x4 info recourse with an active forum. That side of the site is established and has consistently growing traffic. The store I've recently added and orders are coming slowly. I imagine the storefront has something to do with that. I was also thinking the small number of products was hurting me, giving off the impression that I'm not established.

I have a couple google ads running. I've done some giveaways on other websites where their users would be interested in my products. So far, I've seen the greatest results from the giveaways and will continue to do more in the future. What do you guys do to bring in traffic and generate sales. Thanks for looking. I'm still far from this becoming my day job so to speak :)

Possible vulnerability?

07 June 2006 - 03:56 PM

Looking through my logs I found that the file, *dir*/classes/phpmailer/class.cs_phpmailer.php was hit 256 times this month. Is it possible people are using that script to spam people? Just curious as this file is hit second to the index page for the store.

Adding items to Cart Anonymously

01 June 2006 - 08:44 AM

I was testing my newly installed 1.3.3 and found that when I try to add products to the cart when I'm not logged in, aka as an anonymous user, the item isn't getting added. It just says that your cart is empty and has a button to continue shopping.

Now playing around a bit I found that this is a skinning issue. However I really cannot figure what I changed that is causing the problem. Looking the source for my skin and another that works I found this difference.

This is the form code that doesn't work on my skin

<form action="index.php" method="post" name="recentproductform_1566">
<input type="hidden" name="target" value="cart">

<input type="hidden" name="mode" value="add">
<input type="hidden" name="product_data[product_id]" value="1566">
<input type="hidden" name="amount" value="1">

<input type="hidden" name="price" value="49.95">

This is the working code from the aquarelle red skin which I copied and them modified.

<form action="index.php" method="post" name="recentproductform_1566">
<input type="hidden" name="target" value="cart" />
<input type="hidden" name="mode" value="add" />
<input type="hidden" name="product_data[1566][product_id]" value="1566" />
<input type="hidden" name="product_data[1566][amount]" value="1" />

I have been digging through the skin tpls and haven't really found anything related to this form code. I have only made a few changes to the main tpl files. I have tested this on IE and Firefox so it's not a browser issue.
I also rebuild my skin from the new 1.3.3 aq red skin.
