Solution was to use TLS authentication and make smtp server "tls://smtp.gmail.com"

merchantman please post in corresponding forum branches, this one for example should be in Issues & Troubleshooting.
That's a bad practice to post everything in General Questions.

We had a positive experience with eCom Labs with the creation of a custom search add-on. Before this project began we were familiar with them as they had helped us with answers to questions on the forum. It was obvious that they knew CS-Cart very well so we used them to update our site and make some theme changes. The results were good so we continued with the search add-on.  

 

We have several thousand products with many features, belonging to many categories and sub-categories and from several hundreds of brands. At the same time, our customers are collectors who are often searching for very specific items. We wanted to give them an easy to use and understand tool which would let them find exactly what they are looking for. In a back and forth with helpful suggestions from Alexey, the logic of our search and the form layout took shape. The result is a powerful search function that overcomes problems with our legacy data, which is not perfectly normalized. It is a major enhancement to our site.

 

We found eCom Labs to be highly expert in CS-Cart in terms of working with the program and also what it requires. They communicate well, so we always knew we were "on the same page" with them, and they took care to understand what we wanted, offering ideas for improvements. Their rates are reasonable and It is obvious that they take pride in their work, which at the end of the day are two important considerations. It is nice to have a proven "go to" resource which we can use with confidence as future needs arise. We recommend Alexey and the eCom Labs team for your Cs-Cart projects.

I'm also looking for some help in this area. I looked at 4Sprung add-on and it seems to do a lot but not knowing SEO I don't know how to evaluate. In addition to 4Sprung and WSA there is one by ABSoft. As to whether there is an actual advantage to using one of these within CS-Cart over simply working with product fields I don't know. They must exist because they add some capability this may or may not go beyond a convenient interface. (One way of working with SEO relevant fields is to export into an end-user database and then re-import after adjusting field data. I use Filemaker Pro for this.) I am also considering research tools to analyze data collected on similar web sites and then doing SEO accordingly. Probably the quickest way to get rolling would be to hire an expert. Where are you looking for help?

BTW, I'm on version 4 and upgrading to latest. I have been told by an SEO company that CS-Cart already handles SEO well, generating good URLs. I think there might be some differences between CS-Cart 3 and 4 in this area. What add-on to use would depend on CS-Cart version.

Another thing to keep in mind is that meta tag keywords are not as important as before. Content and back-links will basically determine how your site gets found. There are tools for writing good content which will rate your text by the key words you want to use. Ideally you want to use keywords that are not too competitive but which people use to search.

Our site has a search form with checkboxes for 4 product fields: Product name, Short and Full description, Keywords. The checkboxes are supposed to restrict the search to checked fields but do not, instead finding records matching the search term in any one or more of the fields. This is problematic as, e.g., "Spring" is the name of a product and also a keyword in several other items. Considering that this can happen over four fields, the effect is excessively large search result sets for users and for us in the back end. So I have a few basic questions about search/filters:

Where are settings for search and filter in v.4? Is it possible to roll ones own searches by setting up any conceivable boolean search, on single field or multiple fields, using AND, OR, NOT, and relational logical operators and SQL calls, or does CS-Cart impose the use of some prefabricated forms with limitations, possibly due to logical dependencies (business or other) in the various templates and the fact that CS-Cart system-defined fields would be tied to that logic?

Regarding filters, we have an advanced filter form which contains five feature fields. They stand alone with no modifiers such as "any", "all" or "exact phrase" and filter in an additive or AND fashion, which is intuitive as that's how physical filters work. I'm wondering if it's possible to use the "any", "all" or "exact phrase" operators on the individual filter input fields, and add a "show" or "hide" operator on each filter for full boolean functional completeness. Also, is there any essential difference between a search and a filter, and if so what is it?

I guess at all boils down to whether or not CS-Cart demands any limits on searches/filters? Sorry for wordiness; I was trying to be as clear as possible.

Wondering what the experiences of those who use rewards points is across various price ranges. What are the products for which they create teh greatest

Regarding reward points, are they set to a specific fraction of currency unit and awarded on the basis of purchase amount? For example, If I want to give a repeat customer a 10% discount and I'm selling $100.00 items, I could set these items to earn 100, 10 or 1 reward points and make the reward points worth $0.10, $1.00 or $10.00 respectively? This is the basic idea, correct? Although the different rewards point values work out the same they would probably not be the same in influencing customer purchasing behavior. How do you set this rate for optimum effect?

Also, there are different profit margins for different price level items, e.g. there is a bigger margin for us with a $1000.00 item than for a $100.00 item. We might want to do rewards for the lower price tier but not the higher end. How would this be configured? I assume doing the rewards will increase sales volume on items they apply to.

Finally, we might have some slow moving items which we would want to move. Could we set up higher rewards points earned and/or lower rewards points needed for the purchase of these or would that be best handled by just a sale price or discount coupon?

I am testing a demo installation and want to import all my products and images before we go live with CS-Cart. Answers to a few questions regarding images will help us confirm our decision to use CS-Cart.

Must all images be in one folder? We will probably have around 10000 images before too long and are starting out with around 4000. On my old server I had around 250 folders which organized the images by vendor and were named accordingly.

Images I added manually to the demo are in the same folder as the demo data:

/public_html/var/exim/backup/images/

Is this the standard and only folder for images? If not, how do I set up a new one. Can there be many image folders as on my old server and described above?

Can I ftp images to the server and then import a product images CSV text file with the image's product information and filename to add images? The workflow would be:
1) create CSV products text file on my computer and import into CS-Cart products table
2) upload images to CS-Cart image folder/s
3) create CSV product images text file on my computer and import into CS-Cart product images table

Is this the way to get everything into CS-Cart or if not, what's correct procedure?
