Product Import From Remote Url

10 October 2016 - 01:28 PM

I was using cscart for a very long time. Until I outgrew it.

But I like the design, speed and ease of layout with cscart.

However, the ONE thing it is seriously lacking is the ability to automatically import csv files from my suppliers website.

I have about a hundred thousand items. Across hundreds of categories. Divided by four different suppliers.

I am able to download the CSV files from the suppliers website. But then I have to spend DAYS, sometimes WEEKS changing category names of their products so that, for example, a shirt from supplier A is in category clothing, while a shirt from supplier B might be in Apparel. So I have to change the categories to match, in order to keep my site clean and un-cluttered with countless categories.

SO, until cscart catches up on the import capabilities, I've had to switch to Prestashop. (which I'm not as happy with on the front end....but I have a cool module/addon called Total Import Pro that allows me to "fetch" csv files from a URL, then map the csv fields to my product and category fields.

It also allows me to add top level categories on the fly during import, and I can rename categories and filter products by most any number of criteria.

I then setup CRON jobs to have it automatically import the latest csv file updates so that my inventory levels and prices remain up to date and accurate.

CS-CART IS SEVERELY BEHIND THE CURVE ON THIS CAPABILITY!

I have searched in vain for addons that could provide this functionality to cscart.

I would hope that CS-Cart would want to be at the front of the curve instead of playing second fiddle to more capable options which are available for MUCH LESS COST.

Our Brands Returns 404 Page

19 July 2016 - 12:34 PM

I deleted all products in my store and imported new products and their brands.

The variants of the Brand feature are showing all of my brands correctly in admin.

I've checked the feature ID and ensured that the quick menu link for brands is correct and matches the feature ID.

I've cleared my cache.

But when I click on the "Our brands" link on the homepage, it returns a 404 page not found error.

Any suggestions?

Cost Field Import With Markup From Cost Using Promotions

11 May 2016 - 01:58 PM

The most basic of needs for any company is being able to markup pricing for profitability, special prices for specific customer groups, wholesale pricing for wholesale customers, etc.

CS-Cart ONLY allows TWO methods of adjusting prices. A fast, simple, easy method in the promotions module to mark DOWN from the price.

This is ok if you have a standard markup on all of your items that is consistent across all categories and products.

It's also ok if you don't have very many categories to individually set pricing discounts for.

But CS-Cart actually has a large inventory demo store to show off the speed of cs-cart with large inventory databases.

Yet they fall short when it comes to managing that inventory and it's pricing structure.

First import your hundred thousand items in small file sizes because cs-cart can't handle an import of that size. Then use the following method to adjust prices per customer group (wholesale/retail)

The other method of adjusting pricing is through Quantity Discounts. Taking your product csv file into excel, creating the relevant columns for Quantity Discount import, adjusting the pricing per group type based on a markUP from your cost. Then importing those into cs-cart in small groupings because cs-cart will freeze if you try to import too many items at once.

A much simpler method would be to simply add ONE field to the standard import of cscart. The "Cost" field.

Then adjust the promotions module to be able to look at the Price field OR the Cost field and either markup UP or mark DOWN based on which choice you make.

You could still define the requirements based on group type and all of the other standard promotions possibilities.

A likely example of a promotion for wholesale pricing could be one promotion for wholesale group only, that marksUP everything from the cost field 110%. So an item which has a List price of $100.00, a selling price to retail customers of $80.00 but a cost of $50.00....... would automatically sell to wholesale grouped customers for $55.00 and still sell to retail customers for $80.00

And another group which only has a 15% profit margin to retail customer, could be set for a 5% mark UP for wholesaler customer so their price wouldn't exceed the retail price.

Example:

Item A in Category A has a cost of $10.00 with a retail List price of $11.50

Retail customers would pay $11.50 unless you discounted the item. But you could set promotions to look at the Cost field and markup 5% for wholesale customer only. Resulting in a wholesale price of $10.50

Item B in Category B might have a 200% margin so item B has a cost of $10.00 with a List Price of $30.00

you could still have a 5% markup on all categories for wholesale..... OR you could set a category markup of 20% for Category B resulting in the item selling wholesale for $12.00 to only the wholesale group.

Doing it the current method of mark DOWN only is not logical, not practical and not versatile.

It could do this new method based on two minutes of setting something in promotions instead of HOURS AND HOURS of filling excel files, setting markup amounts, copying that to all items in the column, saving as SEPARATE csv files and importing them one at a time because cs-cart can't handle large imports.

It would also set CS-Cart as the most versatile and powerful of all carts when it comes to pricing structure.

And their new upgrade page states that they are aiming exactly for that goal of being THE best cart anywhere.

Hid Products Without Images

07 May 2016 - 10:05 PM

Is there an addon or setting that will hide products that don't have images?

My products are automatically imported from the supplier. Some of them don't have images. I want to be able to hide the products that don't have images and I want to be able to do it in bulk without editing each individual product.

It seems like a simple filter could satisfy this option.

Wholesale Markup

02 May 2016 - 06:28 PM

It seems bizarre to me that cs-cart won't import a wholesale price and be able to automatically markup from the cost based upon the user group.

If it can reduce the retail price based on user group, shouldn't it be fairly simple to include a new "wholesale price" field and be able to modify the promotions module to mark UP instead of down and to do it from the wholesale price instead of the retail price?

If anyone knows of a module that will do this, or if you have any leverage with cs-cart on this subject, it would make life so much easier and our pricing so much more powerful.

PLUS it would set cs-cart ahead of other commerce carts on the pricing subject.

Pricing example:

I have product X that Retails for $125.00

I sell it everyday to the public for $100.00

My cost is $50.00

By changing the promotions rules to base on cost instead of retail/price I could simply markup my items for wholesale by a fixed percentage.

Currently I have different markups for different categories (hundreds of categories).

Markup on a clothing item might be as much as 200% but ammunition might only be 15%

So if I'm giving my wholesale clients a 30% price break....I'm losing money on the ammunition.

By changing the pricing structure to base from cost and mark UP for wholesale clients but to act as cs-cart always has for regular customers....that would be phenomenal!

I'm definitely in need of this addon functionality if anyone knows how to program it.
