#234175 Feedback Wanted From Cs-Cart Theme Developers

Posted by NairdaCart on 04 November 2015 - 02:00 PM

I've come back to CS-Cart after a couple of years away doing other sites, mainly Shopify ones.

As a whole their product is inferior to CS-Cart but for template development the new Timber framework they've developed is really good for responsive work and is incredibly easy to use compared to what we have in CS-Cart.

The biggest issue I have with developing in CS-Cart is the documentation. After being away I need to refresh my memory but the documentation is dis-jointed with many broken links and links pointing to completely unrelated subjects.

I basically just clone a theme and then make all the changes I need directly to the files and generate diff sheets so I know what's changed for any future updates.

#176300 Very Basin Css Question

Posted by NairdaCart on 29 January 2014 - 04:39 PM

I use the native inspector in Firefox. I used to use Firebug but I find for non-PHP stuff the native inspector works better for me. I use the copy unique selector a lot.

Personally I haven't found it an issue not being able to easily identify which file the original CSS comes from. I use the on-site template editor to find work out which templates I need to hook into or override and the layout css/less file for the formatting.

When you put the CSS class into the banner block don't put the "." on the front of it. Just the name.

There is already a defined user class for the banner block (homepage_banners) so you don't really need to create another one but it won't cause any problems.

#175630 V4 Add To Cart Button On Category Pages

Posted by NairdaCart on 21 January 2014 - 12:14 PM

It's there by default in the list just not for the grid.

If you want buttons on the grid as well as far as I know you'd need to amend the product_multicolumns.tpl file and change show_add_to_cart from false to true.

#173911 Some Add-ons to Be Excluded from CS-Cart 4.1.1

- Product Configurator: It is absolutely crucial to be able to configure a product no matter what sort of store you are running. This should be part of the main CS-Cart installation, it is absolutely not acceptable to remove this feature.

There is zero need for it on any of the stores (non CS Cart) that I run and I've got no problems with it being removed for the CS Cart stores that I'm developing.

You might need it but please don't imply that it's a must have for every type of store. There are many other things I would want to see first.

#170662 Cs Cart is really not what it seems.

Posted by NairdaCart on 30 October 2013 - 04:36 PM

I have seen countless posts of people trying to get help but cscart ignores them or they try to charge them for features that come with the cart and are either outdated and don't work. For example Amazon payments. It doesn’t work. Cs cart offers it but it doesn't work. Fas as I can tell they haven't updated the amazon payment requirements ..

I agree that there are quite a few things that should have been sorted by now but I'm very impressed that CS-Cart allow frank and open discussion of problems on their forum.

It's certainly not the case with the other shopping cart providers I've used. Unless you frequented their forums often to see the threads before they were pulled you would think they had the best systems in the world.

#168389 Shipping methods... TERRIBLE BUG

Use grammes rather than kilogrammes and you don't have the issue with half weights.

#167421 How to change basket icon

Posted by NairdaCart on 27 August 2013 - 07:55 AM

This article explains how to set up the my_changes - http://docs.cs-cart.com/my-changes

I only have one image on mine rather than two but I used this code in my custom less file:

.icon-basket {
  background: url(../media/images/basket.png) no-repeat;
  width: 36px;
  height: 24px;

There were a few other style changes to adjust heights on other elements etc as the icon I'm using is much bigger than standard and I have my basket as part of the top row but that bit of code is the basic bit to put your own icon in.

#167270 My Changes in Version 4

Posted by NairdaCart on 23 August 2013 - 02:57 PM

Working fine for me.

I have my custom .less and .css files in the equivalent of /design/themes/basic/css/addons/my_changes

I have my styles.post.tpl file in /design/themes/basic/templates/addons/my_changes/hooks/index

The contents of the styles.post.tpl is :
{style src="addons/my_changes/mystyles.less"}
{style src="addons/my_changes/mystyles.css"}

Additonal styles I put in the CSS file and override styles into the LESS file.

I keep the Rebuild Cache Automatically toggle set to On while I'm testing new styles. You can find that on the left hand side pane in the Template Editor section.

#166577 Where is the fn_define() function

Posted by NairdaCart on 09 August 2013 - 05:11 PM

So do I. There are several Windows grep programs.

What version of CS-Cart are you using? It's there in v4.

#165641 CS-Cart 4 Final Released

Posted by NairdaCart on 21 July 2013 - 01:17 PM

My experiance with cscart is one of frustration too, I had the licence for 2 years before my site went live. I think the company itself has the problem and any product they produce will never be finished as it should. To my mind I now have a working site and I'm not going to step back into the unknown by installing another version, notice I don't use the term update. The only update I would be interested in a finished product.

That's true of pretty much every software product though and especially PHP type products. I've tried many shopping carts, forum software and blogging software. They all have bugs of some sort and features missing that some users would say are critical to them and the product is useless without.

My opinion is that it's a matter of finding the software that the critical bits you need are working and live with the issues on the other bits. My previous cart would have been pretty much faultless for me if I didn't have lots of product options as the way it handled them was a show stopper for me. Probably 80% of the features in CS-Cart are of no interest to me but the 20% I need work great.

It's in the same place as the access key in the General settings sections. Look at the line line above the access key there's a checkbox called Close Storefront.

#165549 Install

Posted by NairdaCart on 18 July 2013 - 08:54 PM

If you uploaded the file containing CS-Cart (the one you downloaded from the CS-Cart website) to your actual server in a place that a 3rd party could access then you should delete it.

If you uncompressed it locally on your PC and FTP'ed the files/directories over that way then you can ignore that step.
