Thank you for your replies on this and sorry for not responding sooner - I thought I got notified of replies but turns out I forgot to follow the topic so didn't!

We have since moved servers and have just had another load spike that was apparently caused by too many httpd connections. Our host has optimised our Apache configurations and has suggested we try optimising our php scripts but unfortunately all this is a bit above my skill level!

I did try contacting Jesse to help optimise our site but see that he is not taking new clients on so does anyone have any other recommendations?

Yes, recently Martfox has advised that we should look to upgrade and we are in the process of doing so. However, this does not excuse the poor customer service and does not explain the vast majority of issues we've had.

And yes, we are moving to another host - the only reason being the poor customer service we have received from Martfox. Of course I would I have preferred to have stayed where we are but I have lost all confidence in Martfox.

And yet again Indy has proved the point that many have made regarding her role.

This is the last I'll say on the matter as I have wasted enough time on this but just want to ensure that people reading this forum looking for hosting options hear both sides of the story - which I contend is useful for people to read.

As I started this thread then I would just like to say that although Martfox seem to have gotten better in responding to tickets faster the fact remains that we have had an unbelievable amount of problems since the server move and as I type our site is down yet again. We are a relatively new business and working hard to build up our reputation but with all these downtimes it is making that extremely hard to do. Whilst I accept that all hosts will experience problems, it's how the deal with those problems and assist their customers that is what is key, as well as ensuring that such problems are kept to a minimum.

I have also had some extremely rude responses from Martfox support team which I feel were uncalled for. Yes on occasion perhaps I have asked simple questions that I should know the answer to but if they didn't keep changing the server php mode and causing more problems with the folder permissions then I wouldn't have to. I have wasted so much time trying to resolve the issues.

I also do not feel that Indy0077 is doing Martfox any favours whatsoever - if her job is to provide some sort of customer service then she really needs to look up what customer service actually means - it means trying to assist and understand a customer's frustration rather than trying to move the blame away from Martfox and be frankly downright rude to their customers.

I do not generally like to voice my grievances on a public forum but felt the need to this time after so many problems (not to mention the horrendous lack of customer contact earlier this year when it was impossible to get a response from Martfox other than via public forums).
