Content Page Layout Design Freedom. How To Achieve It?

10 February 2017 - 09:48 AM

I want to create some 'Content' pages (Blog post, Landing page) with a completely different layout. Preferably a layout similar to the best Wordpress themes which I find inspiring.

An inspiration example:  http://oshine.wpengine.com/

Or even with full screen background video:  http://preview.theme...54?ref=cirvitis

Now my (naive?) questions:,

1. how can I achieve this? Preferably without having to code such a layout ourselves....

2. are there add-ons do this?

3. or should I buy such a Wordpress Theme and create a subdomain with linking or ....?

Any suggestion more than welcome!

We run CSC 4.1.3 and hereby an example of our current content page layout: http://artitec.com/nl/bekey.html

thanks in advance for any help!

Vector Images (Svg) Versus Raster Images (Jpg, Png)?

29 December 2016 - 10:39 AM

I have been updating myself on 'best practices' with regards to online image formats.

Love to hear if I'm understanding the current trends correctly.

Is it correct that 'best practice' for online use is to:

1. To use vector file formats (SVG) for everything which is not a photo? And not to use raster image / bitmap like PNG? So use SVG for logo's, drawings, icons, etc.. Basically anything with simple geometrical shapes.

Reason: because SVG images can scale up without loss of image quality. Can be rendered at any resolution with sharp results. With bitmaps you have to choose upfront the pixel size of the image. That size then renders sharp only at 1 resolution.

2. That photographs are best shown using a raster file / bitmap file? And the preferred type is still JPEG rather than PNG?

Reason: JPEG is preferred over PNG-24 because JPEG gives a smaller file size then PNG-24 at a given resolution. Even though JPEG is a lossy compression and PNG-24 lossless.  PNG-8 has 'only' 256 colors so probably not used much for photographs.

3. Is it correct to assume that WebP image format will probably replace JPEG in the near future as most used format? Because WebP gives the same image quality as JPEG but with much smaller file size.

But... we have to wait until Safari, IE, Edge and Firefox also start supporting WebP format.

Are my above assumptions correct?

Where did I get my understanding:

Similar Products & Suggested Accessories. How To Implement?

17 June 2016 - 05:13 PM

Just wondering how the experts around here have implemented this.

´Similar Products´= products which are potential substitutes to the one which is displayed

´Suggested accessories´= products which can be added to the one which is displayed. Not necessarily required.

1. Were you able to create 2 different modules/tabs or were you forced to enter both types of products into one add-on/module which I think is called ´related products´?

2. Which third party add-ons or modules or... do you use?

3. Similar products. What is best, as a product tab or as a block below the description?

4. Suggested accessories. Same question as (3).

Thanks in advance for any insight and tips!

If Going From 4.1.3 To 4.3.x, Will That Improve Loading Times?

21 April 2016 - 03:00 PM

As we have increase number of filters and features we are finding that our 4.1.3 site has become slower in serving up pages.

1. Is my assumption correct that moving to a 4.3.x version we should expect an improvement in loading times?

2. If so, what 4.3.x version is most stable at this time? I see that 4.3.6 is the latest version but I also read it's long discussion thread. So not sure about 4.3.6

Thanks in advance for any info!
