#177925 Four Community-Suggested Features To Land In Cs-Cart 4.2

Posted by kmolchanov on 21 February 2014 - 08:34 AM

Canonical URL and Duplicate Content fixed.. This is a major flaw in Cs-Cart.. It would be nice to see this fixed finally so we don't have to buy additional addon's to fix it. If your going to fix SEO then fix it completely.

Sure, this will also be fixed. Generating canonical URLs will, in fact, resolve the duplicate content issue.

#177877 Four Community-Suggested Features To Land In Cs-Cart 4.2

Posted by kmolchanov on 20 February 2014 - 01:46 PM

Today, I’d like to tell you about some cool new features to land in our next major release, CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor 4.2. These goodies will bring more user- and SEO-friendliness to CS-Cart, to help your business bloom and your profits grow.

Since these features have been suggested by the members of our awesome community, we are extremely happy to include them in our software.

Responsive Design

Making CS-Cart’s storefront more mobile-friendly was suggested in April 2013, back when CS-Cart 3 was the latest major version and the visual framework behind our storefront was 960.gs.

A lot has changed since then. We’ve switched to Twitter Bootstrap, which has made it much easier to develop a responsive storefront theme, and we’re happy to announce that CS-Cart 4.2 will play well with screens of all sizes.

Google’s Rich Snippets

You’ve probably seen those little chunks of text under every Google search result. They’re called “snippets,” and they help users better understand what a particular site is about and why it’s relevant to their search term.

If you mark up your webpage in a certain way, Google can go further and create a rich snippet—a special widget that will show detailed information specific to your page. For example, a product page can contain its rating and reviews. This information can be shown in a rich snippet.

Adding the support of rich snippets in CS-Cart was suggested long ago, and we’re happy to finally implement it in our next major version.

Improved SEO Name Policy

As for now, if an item in your store has an SEO name, this name must be unique across the whole catalog and across all types of items. Some users have reasonably pointed out, however, that this behavior can be somewhat restricting.

For example, currently, you can’t have two subcategories with the same SEO name—even if they are in different categories—because the resulting URLs would be unique (e.g., mystore.com/men/pants and mystore.com/women/pants).

Starting with version 4.2, the SEO name policy will be improved to allow duplicate SEO names; only the whole URL will have to be unique.

UPD: Automatic Canonical URLs to Avoid Duplicate Pages

Another great improvement in our SEO add-on in version 4.2 are automatically generated canonical URLs. This info will help Google and other search providers avoid duplicating pages during indexation.

E.g, mystore.com/pants and mystore.com/pants?size=M will be considered the same page, not two different ones.

The 301 Status Page Redirection

CS-Cart 4.2 will introduce an easier way to move a product, category, or page from one URL to another. Using the standard 301 HTTP status, your store will be able to seamlessly redirect a visitor to the new item location, as suggested in our UserVoice.

You are very welcome to share your ideas about how to improve CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor. If you happen to find a bug, please report in on our bug tracker.

#176162 CS-Cart And Multi-Vendor 4.1.2 Released, Brings Google Chrome Fix, Security I...

Posted by kmolchanov on 28 January 2014 - 08:59 AM

We are happy to announce the first minor release after the recent 4.1.1 major one—CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor 4.1.2.

This release includes only 3 changes compared to version 4.1.1, but the changes are quite important, and it is strongly recommended to upgrade to 4.1.2.
  • In 4.1.2, we have resolved the recently reported Google Chrome issue, which lead to the CS-Cart admin panel unavailability.
  • Another important thing is that older CS-Cart 4.0.x themes are now hassle-free imported during a 4.0.x-to-4.1.2 upgrade.
  • In addition, an XSS vulnerability has been resolved.

As usually, the upgrades will become available to all CS-Cart 4.1.1 storeowners within the following several days. You can upgrade in the Upgrade center in your CS-Cart admin panel.

Those storeowners who haven't received their 4.1.1 upgrades yet should receive both 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 upgrades just one after another. After you have upgraded to 4.1.1, you should see your 4.1.2 upgrade ready. If this doesn't happen, try clicking Refresh packages list (the gear-menu at the top-right corner of the page).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask here in the thread.

You are welcome to report issues on our bug tracker, and feel free to share your ideas on the UserVoice.

Stay tuned to the CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor news on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.

This release includes numerous improvements and fixes, as well as introduces some new features:

  • Order placement page has been improved (no more “Placing order…” blank page)
  • Graphic banners can now be language-specific, so you can show different banners for different storefront languages
  • eBay product sync add-on is available for purchase

Important: It was announced on the forum earlier that we were going to remove five add-ons during the 4.1.1 upgrade process. Instead, we have decided to keep the add-ons during the upgrade, and just make them Disabled. In addition, these add-ons are not included in the 4.1.1 distribution package.

The add-ons are available on GitHubunder an open-source license. Feel free to fork them and take over their development.

We are also excited to announce that the CS-Cart Facebook app is soon to be released.

This app will allow you to embed an existing CS-Cart or Multi-Vendor store in a Facebook page.

We will publish a special announcement about the app soon, stay tuned to our blog.

We would be happy to hear your thoughts about the new version in this thread.

#164370 CS-Cart 4 Final Released

Posted by kmolchanov on 26 June 2013 - 02:47 PM

I would think that not having a store import tool in this release will be a big impediment to people upgrading.

We understand this may be an issue for those willing to upgrade immediately; we really hate to make those people wait.

We will do our best to release the import tool as soon as possible.

#162709 CS-Cart 4 Beta is Released

Posted by kmolchanov on 30 May 2013 - 07:54 AM

I've asked for a sandbox/publication area for years to no avail. Real-time updates to storefronts are only useful when you're done, not while you're in process of change. So if the theme editor were allowed to be valid based on a parameter value or had a property to be able to name the theme, then one could do something like::
Which would use theme_id 18 for that session only allowing someone to edit/play with theme 18 until it's ready. Then to tell the site to use theme_id 18 as the default.

But since they don't run real stores, they never really get these concepts.

I am very happy to reply to this one :-)

In CS-Cart 4, we have exactly what you are asking for—a real-time sandbox with as many layout presets as you like. Picking a layout for a session is as easy is mysite.com?s_layout=3.

Moreover, layouts are more flexible than just color schemes: you can change the actual blockset. This means that you can create a special layout for your store to be embedded as a widget into any page, e.g. Facebook or Wordpress.

By the way, the widget mode I have just mentioned is another big new thing coming, we will make a special announcement for it later in our blog.

#153893 CS-Cart 3.0.5 Released

Posted by kmolchanov on 29 January 2013 - 07:48 AM

Remember that feature that disappeared? Suppliers. Where is it?!

UserVoice = "Under development" for Ultimate on November 26th 2012. Looks like everything is being ditched for a pointless new admin skin in 3.1, with no real core functionality updates.

I would like to re-assure you that the Suppliers functionality is really under development, it is planned to be included in CS-Cart 3.1.1.

#141593 Sorry, you was hacked - CSCart Demo Pro

Posted by kmolchanov on 27 July 2012 - 08:00 AM

Hello guys!

was prob pretty easy with access to the admin area accessible

You are absolutely right (did YOU do it??).

Although we are still investigating the issue, it is clear that someone used the "Upload files" feature in a 3rd party file browser we added to CS-Cart 3.0.2. Unfortunately, we forgot to disable this feature on our demo website. It seems it would be better to disable the feature completely in CS-Cart software, because anyone who has the access to your CS-Cart admin panel (including vendors existing in CS-Cart 3.0.2 Multi-Vendor Edition!) can do the same 'trick'.

We will publish a solution to block the upload files feature in CS-Cart 3.0.2 as soon as possible.
