#194745 Upgrade To 4.2.2 Site Slower

CS-Cart developers need to escalate "site speed" to the top of their "to-do" list.

#194432 A Big Thumbs Up For Cscart Rocks

The site looks great and I second the THUMBS UP for CSCartRocks. They do great work, many times going above and beyond!

#193893 Vivashop - Your Ultimate Responsive Cs-Cart Theme

Posted by kingsleypress on 10 October 2014 - 04:57 PM

I have this installed on my main site now. Still needs some tweaking, which I will do over the weekend. At some point, hopefully in the next several days, I will post here some more information on what I think could be improved on this theme.

At the moment, though, I am feeling a bit frustrated by what I consider to be their draconian licensing terms. If you plan on keeping a test site (which I like to do, so I can test out changes on my site before making those changes on my live site), maybe plan ahead to buy TWO COPIES of this theme. Once the theme is activated on your main site, the licensing will stop on the test site and they demand you remove all files from the test site.

Maybe I'm missing something here. If so, I am open to correction.

The licensing terms of CS-Cart itself AND every add-on I can think of allow you to run a test site, so long as it's not live on the internet is on the same domain as your live site.

So, I have a site at:

and I have a test site at:

It seems reasonable to me that as long as I'm not using the test site for anything other than testing different styling options, that I should be allowed to keep this theme on the test site.

This theme has 5 different styles that you can switch to using the Visual Editor. Am I supposed to test those and tweak them on my live site while customers wonder what on earth is happening?

Like I said, I may be missing something.

And again I say, I love this theme. Just a bit frustrated right now.

#193405 Duplicate Seo Names In Database

Posted by kingsleypress on 05 October 2014 - 08:14 PM

Do you have multiple languages?

No, just English. I started with a v2.x installation back in 2009, upgraded to 3.x, then upgraded to 4.x Now I'm on 4.2.2 Always stayed with the Pro version (or whatever they call it...maybe it's called Ultimate now).

Only ever had one storefront/company and one language. It seems pretty weird to me. I've gone through the SEO Names table manually in phpMyAdmin and think I've eliminated all the duplicates but who knows.

Does anyone know why I would have two SEO names that are the same in the database?

appears twice. See screenshot attached.

I'd be grateful for anyone's help in figuring out how this could have happened, whether it's a problem, and how to fix it.

It was not working on September 22 at 7:30 or so. Otherwise I would not have taken the time to come here and try to help you out by letting you know it was down.

You're welcome.

Because the CS-Cart implementation is half baked.

#189723 Need Help With Seo

Does your site come up in Google if you search for your company name?

How long has your site been available on the internet?

Are you selling a niche product, or something very common?

#189715 Struggling With Blog Choice Decision

Posted by kingsleypress on 16 August 2014 - 02:32 PM

WordPress is the most powerful blogging system if you're primarily concerned about SEO advantages. But it has to be configured correctly. There are a lot of plugins available that will enhance the SEO benefits (https://yoast.com/wo...ss/plugins/seo/ is highly recommended and free). I suggest you do a lot of research on WordPress and SEO before you take the plunge.

Insecure? Make sure you keep the WordPress software up to date, as well as all plugins. I've personally used WordPress blogs for years and maintained them for clients, and quite honestly the only times I've had problems has been when I've not keep the software and plugins updated.

Sorry to disagree with Tony but you should NOT put the blog in a subdomain. Google and other search engines will view that as two separate domains, thus dividing (halving!) the page rank. Ideal placement is www.mydomain.com/blog. This consolidates all incoming links (and thus page rank) to one domain instead of two.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of a blog is that Google likes freshness, so before you start down that road you need to be sure you can commit enough time and energy to keeping the blog updated regularly.

If your main goal is not SEO related, the Alt Team blog add-on you're considering is probably a good option.

Simtech is correct. You need to set up a promotion with the minimum order total as the condition and free shipping as the bonus.

#186207 Rating Of Developers On Cs-Cart Marketplace

It would seem that some sort of quality control should be in place, but probably CS-Cart team doesn't have time for such things.

There's also this kind of a thing, where if someone shares a product on your store or shares their purchase, they get a coupon code for a discount:

#184486 How to Speed Up and Optimise CS-Cart Version 4?

Posted by kingsleypress on 29 May 2014 - 01:26 AM

Please report any change in sales as a result. Statistics of performance are wonderful and you can chase them till the cows come home. But the goal should be what increases sales in the long term and rankings in the short term. If it makes no difference then you are wasting your time unless you like playing with your site and getting a high score. But if that score doesn't increase your bottom line then it's an exercise. Let us know if that 91/92 changes your ranking in search results.

Thanks for your input Tony. I agree that the goal is more sales. And I doubt the speed increase will help my rankings. However, I have read that search engines could start penalizing slow loading sites. And I've seen a lot on these forums and other places about the importance of site speed for customer retention.

I think the bottom line is that one shouldn't focus exclusively on one area of a site's performance to the neglect of others. One could spend a lot of time focusing on SEO and get lots of traffic but then have a high bounce rate because of a slow loading site. And as you say, one could spend a lot of time on getting faster loading times, but neglect SEO and other methods of increasing traffic to the site. I'm sure that over the years I've spent 100 or perhaps even 1,000 times more time and effort on SEO and other traffic-driving strategies than I have on site loading times. I just see the latter as one more thing to help the overall performance of my store.

#183633 How to Speed Up and Optimise CS-Cart Version 4?

OK so I uninstalled Searchanise and purchased the Quick Search add on from Alt Team.

I now have an A, B score from GTMetrix (was A, C).
